Exactly. I received a report at the same time as post #25 in that topic. That report was not from you, and being at work at the time there is no way I could have responded, or done anything about it. Before I received a report you seem to have reported it at post #15. That is when backing off is usually the best idea, if you have reported a situation it is obviously because the assistance of a moderator is needed. Yet you continued to post in that topic for nearly 3 hours, 12 posts if my count is correct. At the same time you were posting on this topic, back & forth between the two.
A mature person would have stepped back from the reported topic, rather than in many ways adding fuel to the fire.
Now, let's keep this sensible, within the forum rules, and we may all get something accomplished. If this topic ends up having to be closed it will end up with less progress being made with some valid issues members have raised concerning this forum.
Now a mod is resorting to the insults, wording somethink like "A mature person would have stepped back from the reported topic, rather than in many ways adding fuel to the fire. " is just the same as coming out and blantantly saying it.
I give up and give up with the forum.... if a mod can come out with comments like that as an inpartial person then there is no real hope of this topic ever been enforced. so basically wasting mine and everyones time that feel like i do (and i see by this thread theres more that agree than dont)... still mods have gone against the masses and chose not to listen...again!!!!
to everyone that has posted and posted with not so much of a harsh direct individual person attack i will say thankyou, to all that have tried to just makes things worse.... you have my deepest condolences.

Since this is a thread for posting suggestions for remedying our little issue, I would like to suggest that everyone take a step back and look at this current situation as impartially as possible. The original poster in the thread that kicked this all off was essentially doing a fish-in cycle, something that has been done for many years and is even listed as an option for cycling on this very forum. The OP posted pics of his fish for praise, no doubt, and was met by immediate condemnation of the way he keeps his fish. He explained his methods and his reasons for doing so and was once again chastised because his methods were not the approved methods of many on this board. It is only understandable that he should get a bit irritated. It is a bit like one mother telling another mother that they are raising their children incorrectly. Both mothers mean well but it is only natural that someone is going to take offense.

Hasn't this thread sparked a lot of response.
Its simplistic beginnings have mushroomed into another have a go thread, no mater how you try to disguise it, the fact remains as another cloaked attempt to put the proverbial boot in.
Let me re-iterate. We are Mods not Gods we have been chosen for certain qualities we possess. We reside in different geographical locations which dictates that we cannot be around 24/7 (we sometimes need to sleep) Some of us are employed and need to attend this employment in order to support our families. Some of us are in full time education and need to attend such scholarly establishments regularly if they wish to accomplish our goals in life. Some of us have family matters to deal with and that certainly comes before TFF. Some of us have had marriage breakups which means a length of time away whilst they come to terms with the situation they find themselves in. Some of us go away on holidays but for some peculiar reason log on and moderate from far of lands (I even modded from Australia once from an internet cafe). Yet through all this Mod commitment is there and anyone doubting this commitment for one second should really think twice about making any derogatory statements to the contrary.
I could go on and on and on. Moderation of a forum is not as easy as everyone thinks it spoils the enjoyment of TFF for the most part. It takes a hell of a lot of time to manage and that takes dedication and commitment by the parties involved and all this for free. YES we give up almost every spare moment of our time to do what in essence is janitorial work. All for FREE to try and make this an enjoyable place for like-minded people to spend some time.
This may be another post that folks will dissect and pick the bones out of but its easy to sit there and type about negativity which may only relate to a small minority of the membership. In the main I personally think that TFF on the whole is a pretty exciting and dynamic place to be and learn about this hobby of ours. We have thousands of members to oversee and deal with spam and other things that gets slung in our direction. Maybe we should have let porn spam run a muck a while back.
The commitment of the Moderation team which ever way you look at it has been called once again for the umpteenth time into question.
Its posts like this that are designed to lower Mod moral and make them wonder "Why are we doing this" I personally do it because I love the hobby, I'm human, I make mistakes just like everyone else on planet earth. I/we try to accommodate every last member on TFF to the point or ridiculously typing pms right into the wee small hours.
So I'll cut to the patronising comment shall I. If you find you have a problem use the Report Button, PM a certain Mod or Mods. We will if deemed fit deal with the problem sometimes after consultation with our fellow counterparts. It takes time we have our lives and our hobby to attend to also. If you feel that someone or something irks you then leave alone and keep walking. Don't just sit behind your computer stewing on some little obstacle that you cant seem to bypass. You may be spoiling yours and other folks experiences on the boards by not moving forward.
TFF has had its fair share of bad apples (for want of a better word) who have been awarded penalties for their past misdemeanour's. Yet I have seen so many return to the fold even when they have professed that they are gone for good. Why is this...It can only mean one thing and one thing only that TFF isnt such a bad a forum as certain folks make it out to be....now is it!

I have an idea. Can the TFF Team post a sticky in one of the forums and make it a poll/questionaire of what people think of TFF and the Team/Members etc then PM every member with the link so it gets filled in. Surely that would be the best way of doing it?
From my personal experience every post I have reported has been delt with in the appropriate way and in good time

I don't think people understand that the mods dont live here and actually have lives (hard to believe i know) and i'm pretty sure that people should not be having a go at the people who give up their own time to help on the site...

Well I'm a newbie as well to this forum.... I wont use noob as I find that often carries immature attitudes behind that word. Not that I'm saying anyone who used it in this thread is immature.. just put that down to years of online gaming 
I Have not read through the entire topic yet I got to the third page or so and still going LOL.
The one thing I have found about this forum which I think makes it superior to alot of other forums out there. Is that from my very first post I have had people try to help me out in a friendly manner, the advice has not always been the same. But the intention always has been, and thats to help out to best of their abilities.
Also another major selling point to the forum, your a person straight away here. You do not need to have some magical post count before your opinion count. As I have had experienced on other forums. Where I posted something and then someone with a higher post count says the exact same thing and then gets all the glory.Thats the one thing about forums which really gets on my nerves is the elitism attitude that you must have x- amount of hundreds/thousands of post before your worthy of notice. Which I thankfully have not seen any signs of here.

Things haven't always been like that, however, and I definitely miss 'the old days'. Whilst there wasn't really elitism, you always knew the small group who did have quite high post counts (over 5000, back then...) could be trusted to give the best advice.
Alas, now it seems post count is cheap and has been rendered meaningless. Not mentioning any names specifically, but when you get certain people who manage 20+ posts of frankly utter trash per day, and then because the old attitudes still exist are treated like some sort of god by others simply because of this high post count and managing to shoe-horn their opinions in first, it doesn't really make a good impression on the older members. Hence, in part at least, the dwindling numbers of people sticking around more than a few years and also their contribution to the forum.

I havent really read this thread (scanned a few posts), but my general observation is that you can normally pick up on the attitude of a new poster within 4 or 5 of their responses to a 'help me' question they've posted (lets be honest, a large majority of new members only sign up when they have a problem). You cannot blame anyone for making mistakes, and you should be patient with them and try to help.
If they then turn around and competely disregard your advice, then leave the thread - and dont bother with them in the future. If everyone did that then they'd only be alienating themselves from the forum anyway.
Personally these idiots that visit the board I find are far and few between, which I find makes its easy for me to check out further posts, have a read over them and report if needs be, then leave the thread to sink to the bottom.
If they then turn around and competely disregard your advice, then leave the thread - and dont bother with them in the future. If everyone did that then they'd only be alienating themselves from the forum anyway.

I agree that there are trolls and what not around that are annoying. But i ignore them you get trolls and immature people on all forums. I myself was a mod on a forum and truth is, i hated it. Not just the annoying trolls/silly arguments, but the forum rules were much stricter. Post in a thread that's been reported, you got a warning (people had to state that they had reported the thread) get two warnings and you were banned. Get two more warnings and you were banned for even longer, then even longer then permanently. And i hated banning people for replying to a thread just because someone had posted above them with the word reported. And thats why i no longer visit that forum.
The mods hardly ever contributed, just went around scanning for anything wrong and abusing their power. I was actually surprised when i came here to find a friendly mod team that contributed, and not an army of power mad nazis.
You have to realise that like the users, the mods aren't on 24/7 as most of families and they have jobs. There will be times when ridiculous threads are left open for a while until a mod gets chance to deal with it. Its a forum, chill out, report it and move on.
Oh and by the way, advice is advice, even if its for the welfare of the fish. You cant make them do what you advise. People will listen to what they want. Some people just don't care and will say, shove a red tail catfish in a 20 gallon tank for example, and ignore all advise because "The fish seems fine" and in that case, id say that they will have to learn from their mistakes. As they're going to ignore you anyway.
