The fish really don't care much, so as long as you like it - and I see nothing to criticize.

looks really good metermaid...but most book said that african cichlid would color up better with dark substrate....but your fish seems to look really good....I would add and actinic light if you haven't got one yet, it would bring out the blue on your your fish better..IMO...

Thanks for the positive replies guys ! - I was advised on another forum that it was too white and too coarse and I would need to change it - I don't want to do that - so I am pleased to get so many replies that it is fine - fish seem more than happy with it too

I like the substrate, and I love the large rock with the fossil. Where did that come from? Do you know what made the fossil?

yes, i really like that too - I bought it with the rest of the holey rock in Ripples Centre which is part of Bridgemere Garden Centre in Cheshire (just outside Nantwich). I have no idea what the fossil is but it does look good !
