anyone? poor pictures i know but i could upload the good ones.

Thanks

Theres a limit to the maximum picture size you can upload. If you want more pictures they have to be smaller or more compressed.
Stunning platy - i love hifins but you can't get them where I live. They're worth a fortune.

I think she is pregnant, just by the shape of her belly. In the first image, first post, the bulge of her gills and of her belly are distinct - sign that she's probably pregnant but not very far along. You probably have 3, possibly 2 but most likely about 3 weeks to go before she gives birth.

That might be incorrect also. You have to sort of guess based on the average size the abdomen gets to on average brood of 30-40 fry - if there's ten fry in her she could give birth tomorrow, and I once said a fish would drop within three days, and it dropped 85 fry 2 weeks later.

Ok thanks. I have two of these hi-fins and they are my favourite fish, the other platy's orange parts are very bright. Do you think if i have too many fry i could sell some to my lfs, or wouldnt they give me much money for them? I would let you have some if you werent living on the other side of the world lol

Yeah that can be a slight problem :)
It sucks because the australian quarantine people are just outrageous. They take ages to get back to you on anything and they are really strict. They keep seizing and destroying fish that are being imported legally because they're too thick to work out that the paperwork is on the other desk.
I sell fry at the markets, and when they get a bit bigger I was thinking along the lines of swapping six or eight healthy platies for one healthy platy from the LFS. They get some absolute stunners in there, I picked up a copperblack/yellow breeding pair yesterday for less than 10 bucks. Cheap as.

Lol!Nice only $10 thats like a fiver in english money! At my LFS they have some amazing fish which don't look that common and yet they dont have any Neon Tetras which are quite common. Its wierd but atleast they have a reasonable selection of platys. :hyper:

In the last 24 hours or so she has really plumped up, mainly outwards so she now looks alot more pregnant than in the pics. Her belly is more of a bulge now which i guess is pregnancy.

Here are some more pics. May help clarify if she is pregnant or not.

Thanks

When do I put her in a breeding trap? I want to make sure I save the fry.

Thanks

WHne she look's like she is about to explode. Why not put her in a spare tank? You could put her in now, and she could get used to it, and have fry when ready. That mena's there is a way less chance of the mom dyeing.

She either is breeding, your'e feeding her too much or she's suffering from Kidney Bloat disease.
