Is My Platy Pregnant?

WHne she look's like she is about to explode. Why not put her in a spare tank? You could put her in now, and she could get used to it, and have fry when ready. That mena's there is a way less chance of the mom dyeing.

I dont have a spare tank atm. When you say put her in now do you mean in a breeding trap? or only put her in a spare tank atm?

Spare tank, not the breeder, it will stress her out, and she might die in there. You can get a 10g tank at petsmart for 10 dollar's, and just put some mature media in a sponge filter and your set, maxium of 15 dollar's.

Ok. So Petsmart is like UKs Petsathome.

My breeding tank setup is totally simple.
Plastic container (6 gallons) - $5.
Cheap air pump - $10
Airstone - $2
Potted live plants or plastic plants - $8
Fake bark tunnel - $5

Total - $30. And I have myself a breeding setup that I'm comfortable leaving a female platy in for a week, while my father (who knows very little about fishkeeping) cares for all my fish. (Can't miss her fry.)

i got a 10gal tank for $19.99 a heater for $8 and fulter for $21
i'm using it as a breeder tank for my fry atm.

look around you will find great deals out there :D

Ok im going to scavenge for a cheap deal. what size is best for breeding tank/fry raising?

Thanks

I live in the tropics in Australia, and it's summer. The tank is stable at 24 degrees C and 25 is about the optimum for a platy. Why bother with a heater to take the temperature up one degree? Platies are tough.
It can be annoying though - I love white clouds but I can't keep them because during late spring, summer and most of autumn the water is too hot for them - I would have to buy a water cooler to keep them comfortable.

But add another 10 bucks to the total if you're not my neighbour - forgot about that.
