Just tested my New 33 G tank today and here's the result
Ammonia 0.6
Nitrite 0.1
Nitrate 5 ppm
Ph 7.6
GH 80 mg/L
KH 70 mg/L

The tank is only been running for a week, I started with 6 blood fin tetras, but i added a wooden log from my establish 10 G tank along with a pleco just 3 days ago and my leo pleco last night due to the fact that it's reacting on med in my other tank. My Question is that, would ammonia and nitrite spike up again or will my tank finish itcycle soon. And also when should i do a water change, I read somewhere says it's not a good idea to change the water during cycling unless the fish are showing some signs of stress. Is this true? I don't see any signs of stress on any of my fish right now so i'm not going to do a w/c just yet.

Sharky, once nitrAtes start to show your cycle is approaching the final stages.

IMO, with a fishy cycle it is important to do regular water changes (no gravel cleaning) to limit the ammonia stress on your fishy friends.

Best of luck!

Thanks Drake, I can't wait for this tank to be cycle and stock it up :D

It can be tough to tell from one measurement. A trend is helpful.

If the ammonia is going down, and
the nitrites are going down, and
the nitrates have just recently shown up, and are rising, ...

then you're probably close.

Here's an update guys, Just did a test this afternoon and this is the results:
Ammonia 0 :D
NitrIte 0.1
NitrAte 5

Nothing really change except ammonia drop to 0 today, is it safe to add fish maybe in a week cause i'm planning on going to my LFS this Sunday, what can i do to drop Nitrite to 0?

Be careful of adding too many fish at one time. It can cause a mini-cycle causing the ammonia to spike up again.

Mike

Just for info, it may be worth your while to test your tap water (assuming you're using tap water) for nitrates. It could be that your tap water contains 5 ppm nitrates.

Hey Sharky

Once your Ammonia and Nitrite measure 0 for a full week it will be safe to add fish. As mentioned, don't add any more fish then you cycled the tank with in the first place, that way you will be sure to avoid any spikes.

Thanks for the great advices guys/girls, I will check my parameters before I add any more fish, Looks good so far (unlike my previous experienced with my first tank which i get casualty everyday :( )and my fishy's looks very happy
