I've just bought a parrot from my lfs, and is colouring is yellow with like a green stripe along it, it is greener at the back. It also has the green by the gills. I'll try and get a pic.

Edit: The reason i ask is that i can't seem to find any with the same colourings.

Here's some pics, they aren't brilliant quality but you can see the colours. I've a bad feeling this is a dyed fish.

hello mate

i would say, being conservative, there is a 101% chance that fish has been dyed :good:

Sadly, I agree.

Not much you can do now besides provide it with a great life and talk to the store who sold it to you in hopes they will stop carrying the dyed ones, but until people stop buying them.....

I'm gutted. How could i have been such an idiot. I feel like taking it back but the shop will only sell it on to someone else.

What sort of life will it have, how much more likely is that it will have health issues.

Well, looking at the pic's it is definatley dyed. Dont take hime back, as for all you know, the next person who buys it will put it in a goldfish bowl. Being that they Dye is poisonus, it will likey get sick, but that fact that he made it to the store in one piece is a good sign. Just give him the best life possible.

Just if anyone is interested and they live near Stevenage, herts. Don't buy fish from Underwater World, The Hyde, Stevenage.

Wish i'd read up a bit on dyed fish now, then i'd have known what i was looking for. I'd read a few threads, but never really seen any pics. Oh well, it'll teach me for next time.

yup hes dyed!!
but the good thing is that not his whole body was dyed. Just the lining of his back.
I think he is more lucky during the dying process than others.
good luck with Him/Her.

how does it work the dying process. Do they stick a needle in and just pump dye in, whatever way they do it it's wrong. Surely the would die from shock if you did that to a small fish.

I tend to only go to fish shops which have signed up to the no-dyed fish policy PFK organise or are members of the OATA.

SOME ARE INJECTED WITH DYE TO CREATE THIS NICE PICTURES AND THE WHOLE BODY DYE IS BY DIPPING THEM IN A BATH THAT STRIPS THERE SLIME COAT AND THEN DIP THEM IN DYE AFTER THAT THE DIP THEM IN ANOTHER BATH THAT HEALS THERE SLIME COAT.

Thanks for the info. What can be done about it from a fishkeepers point of view (apart from stay clear of them, which i will now do, after making this calamatus mistake), is there any petition, is there anysort of blacklist that you can put a shop on or report them.

Thanks everyone for the identification.
