Is My Fish Dyed.

The poor fish has been through enough going through the torturous process. I also have a dyed one. When I bought mine I knew what it was. The fish clerk did tell me they were not going to buy them anymore because the new store manager was against the treatment of the fish. Don't feel bad about buying that fish. They have great personalaties. Mine is actually my favorite fish. They are fun to watch and are very interactive. I am glad I was able to give it a good home and I also got a adorable fish. It's not fishes fault.[/

Thanks for the info. What can be done about it from a fishkeepers point of view (apart from stay clear of them, which i will now do, after making this calamatus mistake), is there any petition, is there anysort of blacklist that you can put a shop on or report them.

Thanks everyone for the identification.

They tried to pass a law last year so that tattooed and dyed fish would not be sold in the UK, but it got thrown out.

It is illegal to dye or tattoo fish within the UK, but there are no laws about importing these fish.

The best cause of action is to not buy fish from them, and inform them as they may not be aware that the fish are dyed. If they agree with you they can sign the PFK agreement to not stock dyed, etc fish.

One small step at a time, and maybe at some point in the future we'll see an end to it.

It really annoys me that DEFRA are trying to being in bans and restraints on commonly kept fish, such as snakeheads and barbs, and sharks (the minnow type not the ones with big teeth), because of this carp herpes, yet they wont stop the import of mutualed fish...

/me goes to take a breather and calm down...

how does it work the dying process. Do they stick a needle in and just pump dye in, whatever way they do it it's wrong. Surely the would die from shock if you did that to a small fish.
