Is It Worth It....

ahh . yep they will be living on borrowed time

Yeah I thought that too, but I keep hoping if theres a ton of java moss/hiding spots...some might survive :p

Also, what temperature do you keep your discus at? I was planning on 28-30C, going on PFK article

anywhere between 28 and 30 is fine . i keep mine at 30 tho as warmer conditions increases their metabolism , which in turn increases appetite = better growth

When I decided to scrap my Malawis and start with something else, I was immediately taken by Discus. I did a lot of research, over about 6 months: Joined specialist forums, asked at specialist Discus suppliers, read books etc.
In the end, a lot of work is required. No matter what anyone tells you. The water has to be pristine. Then there are qt and new fish introduction problems, plague etc. For me, it didn't seem worth it. Others disagree and that's their perogative.

Shroob, my advice would be to do a lot of research, and then make your own decision from there.

i would listen to the people on here who have or are currently keeping discus for advice thats what i would do cant beat first hand advice

yes it is true discus do require more effoert than most other fish , but its really not as bad as all that. yes qt is important if you want to introduse other fish to an existing group of discus , because the fish can have an issue they are immune to and the discus can get it and vice versa. but thats the same with ANY species. discus are surrounded by so much myth and bullsh1t its unreal. they are only difficult if something gos wrong , then it can be a bit of a mare , but do things right from day 1 and you shouldnt have these issues.

to keep discus successfuly you need

1 a certain level of experience and a bit of dedication ( ie not missing a waterchange etc)
2)warm clean water , clean tank
3) good quality high protein diet , fed several times daily
4) careful selection of tankmates
5) dont fuss them too much!!

and thats basicly it , give them that and ignore all the myth and bullsh1t and you will be fine .
