Is It Possible To Cycle Small Tank?

Hi all! I bought a small tank (only 15 litres) as a hospital tank. Unfortunately I don't have space for a bigger one. I was just thinking is it even possible to cycle a tank this small? Or in the unfortunate event if a fish becomes ill, shall I just fill the tank with treated tap water? Or with water from the main tank?

Yeah of course you can... any body of water that contains a filter can be cycled.

You do have a filter for it, right?

It maybe a little harder to cycle a small tank but it is still possible.

No, I don't have a filter yet, I can't find any so small! That's part of the problem, am a bit at a loss with this

Have you asked your lfs ? Mine has a large variety of very small sponge filters - all very suitable for a 15 l small tank.

Im new to this, so this is more of a question, but do you intend to add ammonia every day (perhaps for months) just in case any of the fish are ill..? Otherwise, how can you keep the tank cycled for this eventuality?

The problem with a hospital tank is that your bacteria are likley to die off if the tank is empty for long periods.

When you sort your filter out then you could simply run it in the main tank whilst your hospital tank is empty to keep the bacteria colony running. Just be careful in doing this straight after your hospital tank has had some ill fish in.
