hello

i just wondered if the freshwater hydra can actually harm fish?

Can anyone tell me?
Thanks
:)

They can and will eat fry and if there is a very large number of them they may cause damage to very small fish such as neons and guppies but otherwise they are harmless. I actually quite like having them in my tanks as they catch and eat any free swimming nasties which might otherwise cause problems.

FENBENDAZOLE Kills the stuff stone dead inside 3 days. I had a major infestation in my fry tanks not so long ago (introduction of floating plants and heavy feeding regime). Used the above drug to excellent results. Watched them dissolve with my magnifying glass. Totally safe to use even in fry tanks with the correct dosage.

I just want to be sure on this.... You safely used the FENBENDAZOLE in a populated fry tank with no ill-effects on the fry? If so, about how old were your fry and what type of fish? I always get hydra infestations when I start feeding BBS to fry a couple times a day. I'm not sure that I've ever lost any fry to them, but I don't like them none the less. Right now I have several hydra in my planted/mossed 20G (long) with 2 batches of 3R apisto cacatuoides in there. One small batch has been free swimming for about 10 days while the other large batch for 2 days. I have some concerns about the new fry being small enough for the hydra's, but they seem to be strictly feeding on the readily available BBS.

FENBENDAZOLE is absolutely safe for the eradication of hydra in fry/adult tanks used in the correct dosage.

Aphyosemion australe chocolate and Aphyosemion tirbaki (Killifish) 4weeks old and still feeding on newly hatched brineshrimp.

The hydra I had fed on the brineshrimp also and multiplied at an alarming rate.
FENBENDAZOLE cleared the lot.

WOW! Well i thought they were microscopic. How could they kill fry if they are microscopic compared to the fry!? Or do you mean fry of small fishes like bettas and guppies. They wouldnt eat my convict fry would they?

They aren't microscopic, but I can see how one would get that impression looking at the slides/pictures. they look like something out of a biology textbook, but they are quite visible to the naked eye. small ones are 1mm or so, but I've had them up to 1/2cm or more (bodies length that is, the arm like things are longer usually). Got several nasty looking ones in my fry tank right now. i've never seen one get a fish fry, but I still worry about apisto fry. They are tiny....

Anyone know where to get FENBENDAZOLE? Can it be found at lfs?

Where do you find fenbendazole? Is it available in any form at fish/pet stores?
