Is boiling water going to soften it?

You may find it cheaper to buy from a fish shop rather than have it delivered from Ebay. Don't forget that once you strat using RO or deionised, you can never do a water change with all tap water. In an emergency you'll need to have some in a hurry.
Yeah, that's actually why I'll get indian almond leaves. Cheaper, safer and lots of tannins.

Found this, is it alright? My bettas tank is about 30L so it'll be like 70-5% of water to be removed from his tank? Anywho, I'll get some indiand almond leaves to be honest and just live with tannins.
Last time I checked Maidenhead Aquatics were charging £3.50 for 25 litres and £1.75 for 10 litres. You have to supply your own containers.

We’re going down the RO route.
Has anyone used the Finer Filters compact version on amazon? £57ish. It doesn’t have the tank and tap (faucet) so doesn’t require drilling through a marble kitchen worktop. Theres a pic of one rigged up outside with a container for RO and the waste plumbed into a seperate container for garden watering. I’d fix it to a board and only connect it when reqd.
Theres too much waste involved and we’re being forced into metering around our way within the next 18 months apparently. Twas news to me!
So.....the compact version then?

That's cool. Do you know if Maidenhead Aquatics in Bristol does the same? I shold get my bath tub ready for 1000 liters :D

I agree with @essjay , I always have extra just in case, sounds like @seangee has a good source if they are close by. Check with bottle water suppliers, around here many of them carry RO water so they maybe to help out. Caligan is selling it at 1/2 of what I had been paying for it.
