2 female Potamotrygon orbignyi?? im jsut looknig into and it says eprfect for beginners and im not stupid i jsut wont buy 2 ino there is alot of reading etc to do but first of all i gota presuade the parents to get a massive tank so i need to no what size to persuade them hahahaha ne way ill check later lots of reading to do!

Depends on the diamensions really, the width should be 32" IMO, and the lenght 5 foot. The problem with orbys is that they have very long tails so turning in the tanks abit of a problem if its not wide enough...

Never kept rays myself but i'd say that would around the right sized tank required for two of that species, However i think the most important thing with rays is the size of floor space in the tank i.e a tank that is long and as wide as possible, i.e. minimum of 2 feet wide, giving them room to turn around as well as at least 6 feet long.

is there a more shud i say " aduquatley " suited ray with a smaller tail ? i only sugested this as its in the pinned article for beginners! there was another that is sed to b around 2 inches smaller? yes ino its mroe floor space thanks

Well there are scobina, which are very hard to get hold of at the moment, ive asked about them from the top ray people in Holland (Frank Z, you might of heard of him) btu theres non about. Hystrix are another option, but getting true ones is hard because of exporting etc. Orbs get to a 16" disc diameter, but things like yepzis, and laticeps are arround the same size in disc, but generally have shorter tails. Have a look at the guide I did (at the top of the oddball forum) which give a little info on each species.

yeah thats where ive read, i read all of that post but i just named those 2 is particualr because it says they are hardy and good for beginners, i would ahve o problem buynig them but at the end of the day its wether or not i can care for them proeprly as a beginner i dont want them to suffer due to my lack of knowledge. every1 has to start sum where

Absolutely, but they all are hard to keep, just that orbs seem to be (by majority view) that they are the easiest, allthough non will be easy, the commitment is massive. The other thing to consider is if your my kinda age (arround 16 or so) then what about if you want to go to uni, its a big problem really...You wouldnt be able to tank a huge tank to uni, so selling up in a couple of years probably isnt going to be a good idea. Its not just the fish, but also the tank, equipment etc (unless you can store it).

Well thats excellant then, with that out of the way your set. If you could go bigger then it would be better, setting a tank up for motoros (probably the best because of their availability, hardiness etc, its just the size thats an issue.
