Greetings all.
Mini DJ (or DJ for short) is a Crown Tail Betta bought (or maybe I should say RESCUED) from Pets at Home in Durham, England. He is about 4.5cms long. So he's still a bit on the small side compared to your average betta. I felt so sorry for him as he was cramped up in a tiny space, sharing it with a sinking bag- he could barely move, so at first I couldn't really see his colours, only the blue over his body and the red pelvic fins. But I am a sucker for red in Bettas hence why I bought him. He looks great when he flares as his tail also has red in the grooves of his tail. I will try and get some decent pictures when he's completely settled in and not too shy.
I tested Pets at Home's water quality, just simply because I was curious. I wish I never. The readings for Ammonia was at 4.0ppm, the nitrite was at 2.0ppm and the nitrates were on 80ppm. They don't have a clue how to keep their fish happy. In the long run, I rescued him, gave him a massive 30 litre tank compared to the tiny one he was in.
So sorry that the picture quality isn't that fabulous, it was taken on my mobile phone, he really isn't too keen at being at the front of the tank just yet, he likes to hide in the back with all the plants, so it looks like I am staring at an empty tank all the time. Also the light quality in our bedroom isn't great as he's in the corner of the room where it is quite dark (especially when we have our curtains closed all the time - we work shifts so it's a pain to get to sleep with daylight) So my tank looks dark and dingy at the moment. I've also just ordered the light that mimicks sunrise, daylight and sunset so hopefully that will arrive soon.
EDIT: The little blob on his tail is a marking on the glass of my tank, that doesn't disappear, shame he sat there for the photo but he is one shy guy.
