Hi, the filter that came with my tank is the Interpet PF1 , small and basic, in the box was a sample of a polishing pad, I squeezed it in and it done a good job of keeping the water crystal clear, I cleaned the filter yesterday and the polishing pad was clogged with gunk that was like mud so I binned it , probably losing some important bacteria.
Has anyone seen these pads antwhere ? as I cany find them in the shops, done a rescape and 100% water change yesterday and lots of particles in the water

From the description of the filter, it looks like the pf1 has a foam sponge, a carbon sponge and a 'supefine filter pad'. Is it this last one you mean? They have some on ebay. Could plain filter wool be used instead? It's a lot cheaper, just buy a roll and cut to shape.

Are you still using the carbon sponge? If you are, replace it with ordianry sponge - but not for a couple of weeks as you've just removed the fine pad.

In the end I removed all the sponges and replaced with cloned media, I used the polishing pad, I was in 2 LFS yesterday and didn't give filter wool a thought, I suppose if I packed it in tight enough it would not go up into the impellor chamber, nice one, cheers..... :good:

Filter wool, super fine sponges and polishing pads are all pretty much the same thing to be honest.
If you get some filter wool, cut it to the same size and put it in you should be fine. :good: It comes on a roll like a very large filter pad so it shouldn't go up into the impellor.
The filter wool should be changed fairly regularly but you can get away with squeezing it out a time or two to cut down the number of changes if you wanted too.

Hi, new here! Found this topic after an internet search regarding the super-fine filter and had a question about it!

I too got the sample extra fine filter, the instructions say to place it next to the carbon filter in the cassette, but does it mean on the inside of the cassette (ie sandwiched between the main filter and carbon filter) or on the outside of the carbon filter? If i put it on the outside, it bunched up when I tried to put the cassette back in the holder....Does it matter where the extra fine filter goes?

Welcome,,,,
I put it on the outside, between the carbon and the casing, last place for the water to go through :good:
Hope this helps :good:

Hmmm, I put it on the inside as when I tried on the outside it ruffled up when I put the cassette back in the holder, but will try to move it when I clean the filter next!

Thanks!

For what I remember, there was a white sponge, then there would be the black carbon sponge then you have to squeeze the polishing pad on the outside of the carbon sponge, should clip in ok, it will be tight though.... :good:
