Wow never thought I'd be interested in cory cats!
Until Monday of this week of course, I had a friend give me a 1'' albino cory catfish. I'll have to admit that he is a very active catfish and is one of my favorites. He eats flakes, bloodworms, and all.
I was wondering if I can go out and buy a few more cories. I was wondering what species to get and how many of each. I do know that I want some Juli cories. What is the biggest cory known?
Last question I have is will cories be ok for life in a 55 with 3 firemouths?

you want to go with at least 6 of each species. do you know what albino species he is?
julii are very nice corys, i love them. i would get 6-8 in a 55 gallon to make them feel secure. it may be best to buy a pack of sinking catfish pellets though as many corys dont come to the surface to feed.
the biggest iv seen is 2 inch, could get bigger but dont know, it was a peppered species.
and they should be fine with firemouths as they wont see corys as a threat. just keep an eye on them though.

I personally wouldn't keep corys with any cichlids, they can quite easily eat or harm small cories.

Albino's can reach up to 3 inches, the bigger corys are the emerald cory which averages out at 3 inches or Brochis multiradiatus which are giant looking cories, although i don't think they are strictly known has corys.although i may be wrong....

I agree with you, a firemouth would rip him apart in a seconds...
However, the largest cory is Corydoras barbatus/Bearded Cory which reaches 5 inches. I too an not sure if this is a true, true cory species.

I disagree most cichlids (unless ridiculously aggressive and very large types) Normally leave corys alone because they dont see them as a threat. In a 55G i dont think there would be any problems between a group of corys and firemouths.

I have 2 pairs of German rams and a pair of Apistos in my tank along with 6 albino corys and 6 leopard corys and I have absolutely no bother between any of them.
Albinos are brill little fellas but I really like the markings of the leopards B-)

Hi Flagtail :)

You have been given good advice about not keeping corys with cichlids. Whether you choose to take it or not is up to you. Please do not come crying to us when your corys have had their eyes pecked out or they have been stressed to the point where their immune system becomes weakened and they get sick.

Hi Inchworm :)
I am still trying to decide wheter or not to keep the firemouths with the cories or not. Last night I bought 2 juli cories, and add the group total of 3. So far their is no aggression, they don't bother the catfish.
