Insurance Insurance Insurance - Shaka's In Hospital

Thank you so much again everyone - your thoughts and concern is much much appreciated.
I have not been so stressed, sad and "depressed" in a very long long time. Sleepless nights, feeling just ill with fear and helpless. After 7 years, he's (I guess) the equivalent of a child to me.

He's definitely much better - thank goodness. Not 100% there yet, but getting there I feel. Still medicated, so I hope when he finishes his meds tonight, he'll be OK going forward.
He's definitely a grumpy old man though and not tolerant of Mika at all at the moment :/ which makes things so difficult because she just wants to play 25 hours a day.
And she's such a cheeky little monster - she'll sit right in front of him, ears in the defence mode - paw raised and ready to slap him in the face (in a playful way, but quite prepared & expecting to be "told off" by him) but her urge to play just overrides the fear that she's going to get whacked or throttled back. Poor petal :/

But Shaka's eating again by himself - though for now they're both on the Waltham's Sensitivity Wet & dry food. She's such a bully though - she will always demand to have the first bowl that's put down - but quickly check that hers contains the most food. Then wolf hers down in breakneck speed. Then literally shove Shaka out of the way to wolf his down even faster and before I can take her away!

Feeding apart is also a nightmare because she screams the neighbourhood down knowing there's food elsewhere and she can't get it it. And I mean scream - it's really not pretty or lady-like.
(Sigh :) little monster child of mine!) lol

Still no photos I'm afraid - soon I promise!

definately agree your pets are like children to you, i'm like that with some of the fish as well.

glad he's on the mend, it's bound to be tough with a playful kitten and a poorly old man. all i can say is just try and seperate them for a few hrs a day so he can get some peace, shut him up in the bedroom or something and have mika in the sitting room.

Get well soon to Shaka I will get my boys to send him loving catty thoughts. I must ask, what breed of cat is the one in your avatar Bloo? He's gorgeous!

Nice try! I think I forgot to mention that she freaks out and howls the house down (I guarantee NON stop like a Banshee cross Tasmanian Devil) if she's shut of out anywhere she thinks there's potential action. It's tough. Sometimes I just want some quiet time with Shaka to de-stress & sooth him, but she just won't allow that. So I end up having to shut poor Shaka out and play with her instead :/

Thank you alessasavoca - that was my previous (part) snow leopard Bengal boy called "Sushi" - Shaka's previous friend (alas died a couple of years ago).

poor shaka, i know the feeling though Lu-Li was like that as a kitten and i wanted to make sure i spent plenty of time with mitts when i first got Lu-Li so she didn't feel too stressed out.

how would she be if you shut her in a carry cage or something a bit bigger like a dog cage. then she's in the same room, can see all the action but she's closed off from shaka so he can have a bit of down time with you

 thanks for the thought - but it's really not going to happen - and believe me, I'm no softie or push-over. But we've had several "battles". I had to put her in a very large carrier the other day to take her to the vets and get microchipped. The box was practically rolling around - she was kicking the sides like a bucking bronco and if she had hands, would have been shaking the bars. She was as if possessed and just wanted *out* (but once out - butter wouldn't melt!). She doesn't take restraining of any kind whatsoever. It's definitely a Bengal thing because Sushi was the same. Clipping nails (which is something I'm very good at) is an impossibility.
(Fellow Bengal owners - help me out here - I'm sure you can all vouch for all of this behaviour?!)

There are times when I wonder what I let myself in for :/
And there are times when I think I should just get another kitten (not a Bengal) just to take the pressure off Shaka. But then again it may just make matters worse, so I should just persevere.

lol ok

our mate who runs the fish shop was telling me ther other day about his kitten, 5 months old and the size of an adult cat, absolute PITA, won't respond to any normal trainign techniques, just wants to be playing killing with everything all the time. i reckon it's got a bit of bengal in

hehe I know that all too well, do they have a set of vocal chords like siamese? Neo and Basil (Basilico) start off with a little moan if you don't let them out, then it becomes a great long howl that makes them so breathless they stick their tongues out! Got a picci of a cat exactly like basil here : http://www.bms.ed.ac.uk/services/staff/mlu...al/willynew.jpg

I will have to get pics up of the real gruesome twosome as they cuddle each other!

glad he is better bloo.. nothing worse than having a sick cat...

cant help rolling around laughing about mika tom is just the same and has been on a crazed bunny killing spree little sod (a bell didnt help!) ... has anyone ever managed to successfully shut a bengal in a room without them going crazy ha ha ha....
