Anyway, if the dimmest setting is by far the most natural looking, would it be better to save money and go for the single but crank it up to perhaps medium setting?

Depends on the length of the tank really. Two strips of lights fitted nicely along the length of my tank hood so I get a nice even glow. If I had just one in the middle and turned the setting up a notch, I imagine the middle of the tanker would be brighter than the sides. But then could look good also.

Definitely getting one of these for my tank.

It's a four foot tank so would I be best to order a triple set, avoiding a big gap in the middle, to get an even amount of light throughout the tank?

Will be great to be able to see my plecs moving around!

I used a blue cold cathode kit from Maplin - used for sticking inside your PC case to make it all funky.
I also got a wee box from maplin and various switches etc.

I use the moon light at night.. but I don't have it up very high and only in the center of the tank (it's sitting on the rear lip of the tank).
It makes for a light area in the centre of the tank but either end remains dark for the fish that like it.

The idea is fo everything to be run off the same box with a timer inside - when the lights go out, the moonlight comes on.


Defo get a moonlight if you're thinking of one - they make a lot of difference
