In the wild I would imagine most fish would feast on anything worth eating that happens to fall into there Lake, River, Pond, Muddy puddle Etc - But would it be a good bit of variety if I added the odd Spider, Fly, Earwig or woodlouce to the tank?

Should I leave the insect alive to get the fish excited or should I kill it before hand to be more humane??

Anyone else add beasties to there tanks??

I drop mosquito larvae and gnats and such in there sometimes. People will tell you it's better not to to avoid disease and toxins and such... but if you ask me, sterile conditions make for weak fish.

i chucked stuff in my rudd fry tank all the time, flies, spiders, moths etc

thats right, if your tanks 100% sterile all the time the fish will have no ammune system, like young children today aren't exposed to things other generations were these children will have a weak immune system!!

Right then - In they go then - I'm sure they must taste nice any way

And I can see where your comming from about the ammunity thing!!

what about dead wasps? my kitchen window is full of um :p

Okay, I admit I love spiders too much to submit them to dismemberment alive, but I did drop a tiny earthworm into the tank once and it was gone in one gulp. I find mosquitoes are gone instantly too. My daughter worried about blood borne illnesses from the mozzies, but the only mozzies around us are the ones who haven't found blood yet and are looking for OURS. I imagine wasps would be abit crunchy and spicey, wouldn't you think? Of course it depends on the size of the fish. Variety is the spice of life eh? I think I'll stick to hamburgers.......

If fish like bloodworm ,how about throwing maggots in??

My larger danios love flying ants and spiders.

Small snakehead vs large crane fly - *gulp* gone.
Small snakehead vs maggots - *gulp* gone.
Small snakehead vs moth catapillar - *gulp* gone.
Small snakehead vs large cricket - *gulp* gone.
Small snakehead vs house spider - *gulp* gone.

You get the picture...

maggots are great, I'ved fed my crabs worms out the pond filter, boy do they wiggle whilst being eaten alive

Besure to cut the stinger of stinging things. Most can sting even after death. 90% of wasp bite not sting, but bees and hornets sting
