Well I went into my LFS to browse and noticed in 2 of the tanks they had some killi's. They were very small and whitish blue with red spots. I need some info on them and the species name because tomorrow I'm going to get one or 2 and a new tank. Thanks

Heh,

Among the dozens of killie-fish species and the hundreds of color variations due to finding location, any guess by the info you gave would be a longshot.

Just ask the LFS what name they have for the fish.

Oh I figured it out, its Aphyosemion gardneri. I got a male yesterday and when the get a female in I'll get her, they'll be in a 5.5 gallon tank that the males in now.

They really dont come in different color variations, those pics are all just different quality some showing the colors better. If you were wondering the males are the ones with the red spots and females are pink. Hoping I'll get the female soon so they can start makin babies and i can start makin money.

They come in different colour morphs depending on where they were caught. Females are brown BTW and the males are colourful unlike females.

Yeah, Aphyosemion gardneri come in a lot of variations - they are not even called that anymore. They have been split into subspecies and moved into the genus Fundulopanchax. But thats a different story - most people call them steel blue killies.

Look out for the gold morph too.

Check out this page, for some great killie photos of similar species

If you want a lot of them put them in a 10g tank - FILL IT TO THE BRIM with free floating palnts, najas, horwort, spawning mops etc. Almost no free swimming space.

Then feed well. In a few weeks you can remove the parents (not 100% compulsory if you feed well) and in a few more weeks you'll notice you have a LOT of fry.

I do this with my Fundulopanchax gardneri nigerianus P82 - check the link for a nice pic

Fundulopanchax gardneri "DO" come in many different colour variations both species and sub-species from different African geographical locations.
Making money on killifish is a misconception. If you want to get rich quick you've chosen the wrong path.
I've been doing it (breeding killis) for over 25 years and I'm still your average joe bloggs.

I'm not doing it to become rich I'm doing it because I want to try it and it wont hurt to make a little money on the side. I'm 13 so this isnt going to be like a career or anything.

You will be lucky to make any money TBH. Think about it, you bought the fish, tank, fitler, heater, food etc. by the time you've earned enough to pay for that you will have nothing left, unless you get serious and get lot's of pairs, buy in bulk etc.

Ok I'll give you that I paid for all of that stuff but with my weekly allowance and the money I already have all of that is already paid off. I understand I probably wont make much if any money and I'm ok with that, I'm just hoping it can at least almost pay for itself. Either way I'm gonna breed them for fun :good:

Even with that said, believe me, you will not make money from breeding Killifish.
Do it for the love of the hobby and learning about the particular species you are charged with, not for financial reward.
