Info about swordtails on website

Sounds kinda "hokey" to me. I guess maybe if the fish were living in a pond that dried up, and that pond was immediately next to another pond that wasn't drying up (?), then maybe the fish "could" flip itself into the full pond, but I doubt that it's having a swordtail makes any difference in whether it would do this or not....this is all assuming that it leaves it's natural home of the river first, though!

 read some of the other profiles... apparently, "The Block Molly lives in rivers. But sometimes it is attacked by its enemies, tiny infusoria, and then it swims away to the sea. The infusoria are killed of by the salt water, and the fish returns to the river."

its almost like somebody half-reasearched their community set-up and then just made stuff up to fill in the blanks.

I have a feeling this is a perfect example of why we all must DOUBLE CHECK our sources on the internet.

If only my swordtails could read, they'd be rolling on the bottom of their tank laughing their you know whats off. Except for the ones that would be trying to see if their swords actually are pogo sticks. The females would probably be wondering what happens to them when their puddles dry up since they aren't equipped with the built in pogo sticks. The boys would be protesting that they'd never leave their ladies behind. The hi fin lyretails would be looking blankly at the regular fin ones wondering what the heck a "mud puddle" was and once it was explained to them would be highly offended that anyone would even think they'd ever be caught dead in one. (And then wanting reassurance from me that they'll never see a mud puddle).

I want some five sworded swordtails, then I'll make a race track on the kitchen table and race them as they 'use their swords like levers to jump along'

LMAO!

On a more serious note, look what they said about 'Fighting Fish' (Bettas):

Fighting Fish are very bright in colour. They come in all colours, red, blue or green, and they are called Fighting Fish because they are so aggressive. They cannot meet without a fight. They attack and try to bite one another, tearing each other's fins to shreds. But this is no disaster, for the fins grow back again: the only thing that is seriously hurt is their pride before the other fish.

Check the last sentence! Nothing is seriously hurt!

polarbeard has it exactly right, here is the real problem with having a sword to flip yourself into anohter pond of water... Only males have the elongated tails, so you would end up in the non-dried up body of water a completely unsustainable population. Why would nature allow only one sex to save itself for a few months (maybe years) just to die out since reproduction would be impossible?

Nature can be kind of odd, I mean look at the Amazon molly Poecilia formosa, naturally occuring genetically all-female populations can reproduce. Sperm from a second species stimulates egg production, not fertilization. But, there are only a very few speices like this, I think as polar said, his sword-boys would be kind of upset without their ladies.

One more thing, anyone else notice that there is no email links to talk to the site's creator or admin. It is one thing to post incorrect or incomplete information, but no way for someone else to attempt to ask them to justify their statements? It is so mind-baffling... and the sad thing is that so many people are going to take this page as fact.
