The bio wheel is a breakthrough in the aquarium market for one reason alone...it gives the beneficial bacteria access to the oxygen that makes it happen.

I have been in many stores where aquarists from days past where the sole form of bio filtration was the undergravel filter. Some people who have always sworn by this type of filtration have a hard time swaying from it but the benefits are outstanding. While using a UG filter you are creating that beneficial bacteria bed in the gravel of your tank, but the drawbacks to this is that there is thousands of times less disolved oxygen underwater than readily accessible in the air. Also your beneficial bacteria are living with your fish wastes and other matter that sits at the bottom of the tank. When you separate the bacteria from the waste the performance improves incredibly. And since the bio wheels are made in the ribbed fassion there is a ton of surface area, especially in filters such as the emeror 400 that have the 2 large bio wheels. The water is filtered before it gets to the wheels also.

I also wondered if that many of you have used any of the new products from marineland labs such as the Bio-Spira bacteria and your experiences with them.

Happy fishkeeping!

is it possible to connect a a fluval 404 to an emporer 400? I may be getting a 404 for my new tank but want to use the emporer for it's bio wheels.

my idea:

fabricate an adapter that will fit the fluval 404 out put to the emporer 400 input.
would this damage the emp 400? I really want the 404 but dont want to buy new bio wheels, just bought the emp 400.

thank you,

Richard

If you want to use a fluval and add bio wheels probably the best thing to do is to buy bio wheel pro 60(like are included with the 350 pro sys)

Bio Wheel Pro 60

and splice it into the return hose on your fluval. Im not sure the diameter of the hose the fluval uses but if you use your head a little it shouldn't be hard to figure out at all. If you need some kind of connecting thing you could pick something up for real cheap at your local hardware store as well.

Note: your fluval must pump at least 160GPH for the bio wheels to work properly.

Good luck, let me know what happens!!

Also I know from being in stores that not all the stores cary the Bio-Wheel Pro's but you can always order off the marineland website!
