I am always thinking of design improvements to things and the other day I sketched what I thought was a wonderful idea for diffusing CO2....

Take a Rhinox type diffussor, *somehow* put it into a clear container. Connect the container in-line with an external filter, inlet at the bottom, outlet at the top. Since that eureka moment, in my mind I have been pondering how exactly to easily DIY such a thing, & then I saw this on AE:

Ho-hum, scratch that patent then! :shout:

haha yea.... There's always reactors aswell , same idea.
Havnt seen that before tho... always thinking of new things :)

Go ahead reinvent the wheel.. i'll buy one if it's less then 70$ lol :)
I would far rather have that one from AE than my rhinox i have in my tank.. going INTO my canister filter inlet...
money money money eh :)

Why does someone not start creating acrylic versions of these things? I'm lost as to why they really need to be glass beyond them being harder to scratch....

I did see that ages ago and think it seemed a good idea.....

..perhaps it's because of the way in which CO2 reacts with normal plastics, to make it out of an exotic plastic (think CO2 tubing) would make it more expensive than glass?

I'm guessing here...

Well made acrylic would be hard to tell from glass without touching it...

Maybe for the fact that glass is just high quality.. anyone in our hobby is rich.. so we can afford the best right :)

and glass is easier to break... so we must buy another

anyone in our hobby is rich
I wish I knew that BEFORE I got into this hobby!

No, I'm skinoid, which is why I DIY in the main or 2nd hand via FleaBay.

I have a low tech planted tank, which is going well so far. (Hell, I've even made my own substrate). I am kind of waiting for it to go wrong, & being the doom & gloom merchant that I am I know I will end up going down the CO2 route. Therefore I will aim for something like 10ppm CO2 via fire extingusiher CO2 using a super efficent reactor of my soon-to-come-if-it-works DIY reactor based on putting a Rhinox inside a jam jar....

I'm just thinking ahead is all...

Doing everything yourself is kind of what I want. With a bit of learning & nounce, anyone can chuck $$$ at this hobby and get great results. By doing things myself I do make things difficult for myself but I want to get similar results (from my planted trropical tank): My goal is to spend a fraction on the cost of both set-up and on-going maintenance and then pass that knowledge on to anyone willing to listen. EI is great, but is the $$$ path I speak of. I don't want mega cost-growth-maintenance-instant_results... partly because I am skint & partly because I am bone idle. I can't see why you can't get similar results, albeit with a bit more initial effort and long term patience involved.

Sell your canister filter (if you have one)

and build your own.. .you'll get like.. 100bucks that way... :)

OOOO i've seen some cool diy canisters.. and i bet they work great too.
