It kinda bugs me when I see questions that could literally have been answered in depth on several reputable websites by just Google searching the question. I can understand not being sure and wanting some verification from the forum. I don't mean that you should only Google stuff and never ask questions, it's just some questions are so easy that you can find the answer yourself in less time than it takes to make a topic.
Googles always so right? I saw one today where someone had done a Google and got the answer, totally, back to front. so how better to check, than ask on a fish forum?

I did say that, you just missed it: "I can understand not being sure and wanting some verification from the forum.
I just meant people who don't even touch a book or a website before asking something. If someone looks it up and THEN isn't sure about the answer or the answer still isn't clear and they need some more help on it, sure, go ahead and ask away.
Maybe I'm biased because I'm some sort of extreme Google wizard  , I dunno. It just seems like there's tons of info out there already on some of the more basic stuff about fish (even in stickies on this forum) that people skip over before firing off a topic. "

lol, I didn't miss it, i was underlining the fact!

I too, find goggle a breeze to search. (though recent changes have ment adverts, even when not related to the search, get top billing.) but thats one of the salient points. not every body has our, affinity, with Goggle. that being the case. "how better to check, than ask on a fish forum?". this is, after all, the reason the forum was set up. in the end, if cycling threads get up your nose, don't read them! same goes for any other subject. Simple's!

i would suggest it those who find these threads boring, stupid or whatever who should change, not those who make the offending(?) posts.
there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Posts that annoy me the most?

The replies that are "you cant do this cos i read it online in a book and it says so"
And people who give you advice on your problem, then you see a post a few days later by the same person proving they know nothing about that fish whatsoever.

So basically, if you don't know, don't say.

I guess most will have made that mistake. to me, the problem comes, when they do it repeatedly. but, is it really a problem? especially if both the OP and the poster, learn something. correct information is "correct" if you have read it, or learnt it from experience. indeed, anecdotal evidence is the most unreliable type. so you could argue, information learnt academically, is more reliable than the same info, learnt by experience.

haha, i have a confession. despite everybody saying 'this is how it works, you must do this, you must do that", i recently set up a tank going by mates idea of "well see if it works, if not change something". it worked for me without the faff of worrying about deadlines, numbers, huge continuous water changes and all the other chuff. hell, i started a fish in cycle about 2 months ago, and the first time i have ever owned/used a test kit or strips was about 3 days ago. but lo and behold my water is nigh on perfect, my fish are happy and healthy and its all good.

Can I just say as a newbie, if I wanted to know something that I was unsure of, yes i would google it. But with anything online you always come across conflicting or confusing info, so I would defo research first both on here and other sites. But this being a fish forum with so many people with great experience, I would post giving the info I had found and then ask for the advice. Even people on here have different opinions and if you are savvy enough you would read the posters other posts before taking on that advice. I think it should be celebrated that a collective of people can offer such diverse advice and ok, some people may not have a clue or intend to take on such advice. But it doesn't take long to work those ppl out either.

As a newbie it can be difficult to click the right department for the stickies - Just saying.

Also I posted 'Are my fish Pregnant?' Posts because I didn't know at all and thought 'There are bound to be people here who have had these fish and know if they are pregnant or not, so they will know for sure'

I don't like rude people who talk to you like you're stupid just because you find it a little confusing at times.
Rudeness shouldn't be allowed, this is a community forum for people of all ages to come and talk about keeping fish, it shouldn't be a place to diss each other because everyone is new to keeping fish at one point in their fish-keeping lives and some people, including myself LOVE our fish and try to do the best for them, and if that means I make myself look like a prat because I don't know what hell I'm doing at times, then so be it!
I rather that than make my fish suffer!

:D

I also can't stand when people 'View' your thread but don't even bother replying.

Seems to me they a lot of you get annoyed because others are 'wrong'! Just remember that if you ask a question, the answer given isn't fact! It is opinion!

There's more than one way to skin a cat. :good:

Anyway, how can a post 'annoy' you? There's plenty of post (and opinions)on here that would annoy me, but I don't bother reading them any more, simples!
