been to my LFS today and spoke to someone about setting up a nano tank in my rekord 60 tank and everything there is to know about it and i was glad to speak to someone so helpfull for a change lol

just been looking for powerheads and skimmers and would like some opinions on the equipment....firstly the powerhead i have been looking to buy is this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hydor-Koralia-1-Mari...oQQcmdZViewItem

it flows 1500litres per hours which is about 25x the amount of water the tank holds

but not yet found a skimmer so would appreciate any sugestion??

thanks people

the hydor koralias are getting really good reviews and seem to be the new seio. I think that the 25x flowrate would be alright because the powerhad is an impellar style so the flow is much more dispersed. Also for a skimmer id definately look at something like Tunze. These seem to be a lot easier than the like of TMC, Aquamedic and the like in a nano aquarium. Also they are slim line and reliable. I know that id buy a Tunze skimmer over my TMC one.

In a tank that size you wouldn't need a skimmer. Weekly water changes would be enough

depends whta you intend to keep in your tank. This iis a difference from my point of view to everyone elses that i think that skimming is always good no matter how big or small your tank is. Its just aquariums can get by without them

i think you mean propeller :good: impeller is what you find in a normal powerhead and its usually concentrated in one area when it comes out.

well, skimming does have some disadvantages. skimmers take away trace elements from the water, so you have to replace them with either chemicals or a water change. in a nano, i dont think you need a skimmer as long as you keep up with water changes. itll be nice to have, but i dont think its worth it unless its fo tank

thanks for the advise people i been doing some research into the skimmers and think ime gunna see what happens without 1 for starters.

defo gunna buy the powerhead as like u say they get realy good reviews.

i didnt realise that the rekord was on the smaller scale. Id say oyu can go without a skimmer. I mainly advise skimmers on anything from 15g upwards ;)
