Ok so iv just rehomed my  panda barbs as im changing the stock levels in my tank. its heavly planted and lots of bogwood etc so its a great breeding ground i guess. So a few weeks ago i saw my barbs acting strangely like a breeding ritual or somthing but didnt see anything happen so thought nothing of it. today the barbs were picked up by a lady  and as she was waiting for me to catch all the barbs for here to take ,there horrible to try catch btw lmao i had to basicly remove every plant rock and bogwood to try and catch them. so the tank got stirred up madly and it was a complete mess.

The lady took her barbs and i began rebuilding the tanks decor, then i notice 2-3 tiny baby barbs. i was so shocked i had to ask my fiancee to come see. to make sure i wasnt going nuts after tryna catch mum and dad lol. I actualy felt god awfull and guilty after the discovery lol. They must have survived in the dense forest of plants i have, very big and bushy plants perfect for egg layers.

So whats the chances these guys will survive? i have 2 bumblee catfish in the tank will they wipe them out?

many thanks guys just tell me any experiances you have had and thoughts id love to hear!

You weren't rehoming  these in the Townhill region of Southampton were you, by any chance? Panda Barbs free to a good home were advertised very local to me on Gumtree yesterday, I so very nearly got in touch (but I'm recovering from a pre-Xmas accident and my better half is having to refill my 6 tanks for me). ;)

Depends entirely which species of Bumblebee Catfish you have, their size and the size of the barb youngsters.

I would try and get in touch with the person who picked up the adults and at least see if she can raise them safely.

yes that is me lol how strange. yes there gone now as im ajusting stock levels in my tank. the cats are about 2-3 inches long and the baby fish gota be around 2-3 mil in size so im sure there gona get eaten .
then again there surviving with out any of my help. just me feeding and maintaining the tank.

And if i was to know someone on here woulda wanted them i woulda advertised them for the forums :)

Microglanis iheringi is a commonly labelled as Bumblebee Catfish, but as much as these are good community fish, tiny fry will be readily eaten. Given you spotted 3 earlier, you might might well originally had many more.

If you have a hang on breeding net, I would definitely use it, like I'm doing for 6 Ilyodon xantusi newborns in with a few "mostly safe" adults but some very unsafe Steatocranus casuarius juveniles.

Getting Panda Barb youngsters is no mean feat, it would be a shame to lose them, plus raising young fish (in reasonable numbers) is satisfying and not too stressful.
