I'm On The Edge!

Thanks :D I love them too

Anyway why i originally started this was to ask what the LED light fitting was as i have ordered 2 3 watt MR11 LED fittings for mine but they haven't arrived yet. And yours looks great with that light.

Cheers

Paul
Hi Paul! Sorry I missed this some time ago
I have now got 2 MR11 led bulbs running and although not anywhere near as powerful illumination wise, they are much nicer as I don't need to modify anything. I keep the water level relatively high so you don't get any splashing onto the bulbs themselves and it works well :D
I can't pm you where I got my led unit as you've only got a few posts so far ;)

Just an update on the MR11s as I've had a fair few pms about them lately. They dimmed and stopped working so I'm back to my UFO led unit. I'm going to stick with that and concentrate my thoughts on a cooling fan installation of some sort to prevent overheating in summer :D

Ok, I'm sold. I love my freshwater edge, but this looks fantastic and like a lot of fun. And I love the little inverts you have in there. I'm definitely doing this with another edge. I have never kept marine before so I guess it will take a long time to plan and get right, but everyone needs a hobby :) It looks like a lot of fun and very beautiful. Thanks so much for posting the pics and so much info.

If I am honest I'd say it's better to go larger for your first marine tank. I learnt the basics of marine in a bigger tank (see the marine nano link on my siggy) and if I'd tried this first I would probably have given up at times.

Good luck with your choice anyway :)

Time for a little update on this too.

All the beads are doing well and I am slowly ridding the tank of aiptasia with peppermint shrimp and boiling water combos. I am back to the ufo light unit as the MR11s I tried just stopped working with the splashes of salt water. Running the tank at more temperate levels seems to benefit the livestock of two blennies, cowries, pep shrimp and beadlets along with the silitary mushie rock so I hope to continue with that low temperature, summer permitting.

A few pics. The white blobs are snail eggs. The snails I have in the tank seem to be feeling uber sexy

That's a very wise decision Soph. If I had started with this tank I would have given up, but it being my 4th marine tank, I have had plenty of practice keeping parameters level so it's alot easier to cope with :D

Those beadlets do look stunning, ever thought of going out collecting your own?

I haven't, no. I got these from a friend and I don't need to get any more as they seem to be breeding well enough on their own  If I ever saw something different I may think of it but I'd hate to take something from the wild and find it suffer in my tank and die :(

Jey Jennybugs, I was also given one of these gorgeous tanks and after 5 years of FW tropicals deciced it would be my first nano!! (perhaps a major challenge but one im up for!)

So......Ive filled mine with RO water, sand and LR and have switched the heater and filter on, ive left the sponge in the filter but nothing else, os that right??

I did it all on saturday and im planning on getting the water tested on saturday so giving it 7 days, when would you advise adding the first living things though? can I add things like zoas and mushrooms and polyps now or wait until its cycled??

oh and last question, what did you end up with lightwise?? I was thinking flexi strips attached to the arm holding the halogens??

Thanks and sorry for all the q's lol

but then there would be literally nothing in the filter?? the guy in the LFS seemed to think that with it being so small the sponge could be of some benefit on this one but im happy to take it out if thats best?

What should I replace it with??

cool cool, will see if I can either break some off what I have already or pick some up from LFS tomorrow, thanks for all your help.

Am I right in thinking that the sponge can potentially harbour to many nitrites/rates??
