Soooo... To begin with, I got into the hobby just before I turned 13 (I just turned 19 now). When I was younger I had always had goldfish in a bowl.. I didn't know anything, and I even had a betta in a tiny 1/4 gallon bowl Not surprisingly, I was known as the fishy killer, and didn't have another fish for a few years.
So one day when I was 12 I paid a visit to Walmart and saw the prettiest little betta, a teeny tiny baby cambodian veiltail. I left without her but returned a few days later and got her. I did my research and became more knowledgeable about bettas.
So here is Atari, the start of my obsession:
A while later, I went to a petstore and picked up a gorgeous crowntail male (please excuse the tiny bowl, it was temporary):
My brother then got into it and got Redstone:
I did my research and got into the idea of breeding. I wasn't able to order fish online, so I couldn't get any awesome HMs or anything yet.So the summer after grade 7 I went to the petstore on a whim. Just my luck, they had a tank full of dozens females, all the same color! But then I noticed something... Not all of them were females, some were actually Plakat males!
Since I didn't want to breed VTs or CTs, I picked out the most violent male and named him Suwa. He was my favourite fish and so beautiful:
of course, I got a nice little PK sister of his to be his bride. Her name was Cha-yen and she was also my favourite
So I bred them. I had 6 make it to the juvenile/fairly mature stage but 3 died from silly accidents/my carelessness.
So the three I had in the end were Doll:
Asthmatic:
And Suja:
I also picked up my first ever VT!
My family drove to the US and on the way back I stopped off at Petco and got my first HM! (and then smuggled it across the border, LOL). A female named Sifari:
And my brother got a CT:
Sadly though, at this point I was 15ish and fell out of the hobby, my fish were gone. Then I started again..
A studly halfmoon male I got from a fish store:
I later bought a female PK from another petstore in hopes of crossing her into my 'line' (I still had the Trio I raised!).. Didn't happen
I tried breeding Suja with my halfmoon male just for fun and to see the results, but it didnt work out.. Suja was silly and dropped all her eggs.
I then went to a different fishstore and picked up an awesome pair of halfmoons. I planned to breed them but was too busy with school, and that sucked because I paid a pretty penny for them!
So I fell out again for a couple years and I'm just getting back into it now.. I currently only have one fish but I'm hoping to get more. And the bonus is I have my own giant room now which means space for all my future fish, instead of having them spread all around the house I even have space for a giant shelving rack of tanks, lol. The only thing that sucks is that I no longer have any of my old bowls (classic drum bowls! so pretty!) or tanks or heaters or live plants anything at all.. I just got a part time job though so hopefully I can fix that Also, there's a new transshipper for Canada, and he actually lives right in my city! So I can pick my fish up straight from his place and skip out on the extra shipping costs I would have had. If I ever order any
I had to borrow a bowl and fish net from my cousin since I really had no money.. He's a lovely marble PK named Charles/Charlie. I eventually want to get him a tank of at least 2.5 gallons with a filter and everything, planted with real plants and stuff. And maybe get him a girlfriend, but his caudal is a little too big for my standards, but he is still tiny so maybe he will grow into it. Breeding him is a maybe thing, right now he is just my pet
Wooow this is long. But thank you all for reading and looking
