This afternoon I was feeding the fishes with bloodworms using tweezers and my hoplo rushed past the swordtails to get the food first and rammed his nose into the thing. Now he has a tiny scratch on the nose. :( Will it heal with more frequent water changes? It's a small scratch but still noticeable, as it's peeled skin.

From now on, I'll handfeed only. Didn't expect him to go into such a frenzy for food. -.- Crazy fish could have lost an eye.

Here's the pic, it's that skin over his snout. It isn't bleeding, but not sure if it will heal.

I could try to take that thing off but too scared that I might cause him an infection. He doesn't seem to mind, but I feel so sorry for hurting him. At first I thought he didn't get hit too hard as it wasn't white, but after about an hour, he had that piece of skin hanging there.

I'll give it several days. If it doesn't heal, I'll probably have to get melafix for it. But he's healthy so it should heal.

If you mean take abit of skin off I wouldnt touch it at all

Just do some water changes as clean water heals most things :good:

Yeah, besides, it doesn't look like it would come off anyway, he has dug through the sand several times and it's still on his nose.
I already did a 10L water change and gave him some salad.
Can I feed him boiled carrot though? He seems to like any vegetable I feed my snails though those are too big for him to eat. Would be a way to make it up to the little guy.

Ime Not sure about carrot tbh I'd stick to the salad hell be happy on that remember fish have to swim through sharp stones to get food in the wild so it will happen a fair bit and they recover so hell be fine :good:

Ok. So carrot only for my sluggies (apple snails) then tomorrow.
Tzup's got his salad set aside for daily treats in the evening.

i think he will be fine :good:

good luck
Thank you all for the assuring.
His wound seems to be getting smaller. I hope it disappears by the end of this week, else I'll look for Melafix or an equivalent.

Not much progress, the wound only got smaller but it is now a brighter white. Going to do a 30L water change today.

EDIT: Changed the water, cleaned the filter (and put the pest snails back), Tzuppy's active but the scab is still white.

His nose is getting better now, only has a small dot and it's turning grey.

The scab healed and it's gone, but now I noticed he managed to get his top-left barbel hurt, no idea how he did it though, because I have sand, not gravel. Its tip is white.
