Im gonna get a hamster

Dweenus, Zouave obviously has given you wrong information...probably made a mistake. Here's a couple links to straighten this out.

The Pet Website- European Hamster- states size clearly

If you scroll down the page and look beside Common Hamster, it says guinea pig sized. Common Hamster is a European Hamster

Read the first paragraph. :)

And actually females SHOULD be larger than males because they carry the children.

look underneath anatomy and physiology, 3rd bullet.

wwestar2000, what kind of wood chips do you have? pine, cedar, aspen? Pine and Cedar contain chemicals called phenols and acids that can cause respiratory disease and kill the lungs and liver. Best not to get pine or cedar.

Where are you vacationing to, wwestar2000, if it's a long drive or an airplane trip, wait. But if you are'nt going on plane or its only a 3-4 hour drive, you should be fine. :) But its best to get the hamster home a few days before you leave so it settles in.

Thank you so much for this info. The place im going is only about a 2 hour drive. I wanted to leave her in the hotel the whole time (about 2 or 3 days). And i will have her for 2 weeks bethe trip so i think she will be comfortable. Im so glad you posted cause i just didn't think it would affect her that much to have pine shavings. I'll go to walmart today and get bedding thats not pine or cedar. Thanks for posting
I think i'm getting her today! :kana:

A 2 hour drive shouldn't affect her. :) Just make sure to remove the wheel and water bottle during the drive as she could fall off the wheel and hurt herself and the water bottle may leak. In order to keep her hydrated, get some slices of cucumber and place them in the cage. They're really watery so she won't need her water bottle until you get to the hotel. It may also be a good idea to put in some extra bedding just in case you hit a pothole and the cage jolts.

Glad to help!

By the way, is your bin cage a bit bulky? You can easily get a smaller one and it would be easier to carry into the hotel and won't take up so much room. :)

Good luck with your hamster and post some pictures!
