Im gonna get a hamster

2 hours is very far for a small animal such as a hamster. it would be better to tame her first. then go on vaction and since I don't think u would postpone ur vacation for a hamster then you should have waited.

hamsters can get stressed very easily. Syrians which I am sure is wat you have, can get wet tail.They can die from this. Plz just think abouth the hamster do lots of reasearch.

Two hours is not a long drive for a hamster. Let me explain the condition their cage/bin should be in while driving.

The cage should be in a place where it cannot slide, hit itself against something, tip over or fall. Preferably it should be under the feet of a backseat person or in the passenger seat, buckled with the seat belt, if doable. The water bottle should be removed but still brought with some water from home (in case the water has different PH levels and the hamster may not drink it). A few slices of cucumber should be placed in the cage to hydrate the hamster. A food bowl should be removed and food should instead be place on the floor. The food bowl might crush the hamster when the vehicle brakes. The wheel should also be removed for fear of the hamster hurting itself. There should be a bit more bedding than usual for comfort and the hamster should be disturbed as little as possible for the next few days after arriving to get used to the new area.

This should be repeated on the way back.

Wet-tail can easily be avoided. :) By draping a light blanket over the top of the cage, providing there is a spot open for adequate ventilation, the hamster should think it is night time and will have hardly a clue where it is going. Then by not disturbing it for a few days, it will have time to get used to the area. :)

well 2 hours is long.

especially for a hamster is still confused and scared from leaving the petshop.

never heard of the food dish thing but okay.

hamsters don't care if it is dark or light they can tell weather it is day or night they have senses.
 
I'm just relaying what my friend who is a hamster breeder told me about the blanket thing. Personally, I think it may suffocate the hamster.

Yes, 2 hours is long. But if you take proper precautions, the hamster should be fine. And the hamster will not be scared from coming home from the petstore as wwestar2000 is waiting a week or two... Please completely read the post. :)
