That's good advice. If they had they likely would not have purchased this fish at all, or any knife for that matter.

Aw, sorry to hear that corvettekid, I was keeping an eye on this thread as I know very little about these types of fish so it was good to learn a couple of things and for me, to see a differnt specie of fish that I had never seen before.
 
And absolutely 100% correct in advising that research is key and good fishkeeping practice to do so.

Sadly he passed away last night :'( such a beautiful fish. Thank you everyone for your help and support. My friend got him from a pet store in china town, in downtown los angeles. He kept the little guy for a week in a 95 gallon aquarium by himself. He never ate when my friend had him and he never ate qhen i had him. Thanks again for the help guys

So sorry to hear this. I would say he was most likely wild caught as often they can struggle to feed in the home aquarium. Maybe your friend could ask the store, out of interest?
