Ill Swordtails

Did another water change and nitrite and ammonia where both 0ppm. I added all medications back into the water and turned the air up. The girl with dropsy isn't looking too good, her ich is getting worse. On the other hand the other girl isn't showing any signs of dropsy and, though she probably still has ich I can't see any spots on her.

As far as I am aware, aquarium salt will not speed up or bring on dropsy.I would add a tbsp per 5gallon of water as livebearers like salt in their water anyway. Good Luck! Salt will not mess with other medications.

As far as the salt goes, I am still unsure if I should add any. From looking on the internet half the sites say to use regular salt, while the other half as not too . I had a fish come down with dropsy over a year ago and I was told not to use regular salt. Here are two sites that say not to use regular salt, here and here. So, you can see why I am confused. Any advice would be helpful.

thanks,

If you are hesitant in using aquarium salt, add the dosage of quick cure(formalin and malchite green) (much stronger treatment, can bring side effects later though but seems like your best bet) to treat for fungus/parasites(including ich). its only like $2.49 or something along those lines. Dropsy could have resulted from the ammonia spikes, the stress or the other problems that she is having. Maracyn 1 and 2 will take care of any bacterial problems as well.
