Yup!

My lfs got some in and I fell in love, they're so cute
Ohhhh... They look like mini tinfoil barbs. Are they hardy or do they require a mature tank?

I don't know if anyone has already said this here (I skimmed everyone's comments and couldn't see it) but otos don't do well by themselves. They are schooling fish, so you should get 5-6 of them.

I voted for the Dwarf Tank, with one exception(the oto)

I said you should make it a species tank you should get some bright and colorful killifish their great to have.

I forgot about those..... I would need peat moss in the filter, right?

They do look like tf barbs  , I like them. I even considered setting up my empty 20 for some but I really have no room at the moment. I'm not sure how hardy they are, I've never kept them but I'll do a little research. I know (or think) Adrinal keeps some, maybe he will pop in and tell us more..

I wish i had a 20 long for my shell dwellers :) I have 5 in a 16gal bow front.. They are a tad crowded.. Need a little more floor space to spread out.. If you build up the rock work, you could add another species of lesser aggressive tanganyikan cichlids..

I mentioned it, I said about 4 would be good in a tank that size.

Also Itty, you say it's not going to be live planted, I dont think you should keep otos in a tank without plants. As I metioned in an earlier post they need live plants and Planet Catfish quote it as essential for their survival:

There's an article on them here:

Have you decided against dwarf puffers? I don't have any myself, but from what I read you could keep about 6 in a 20 gal.... and they're sooo cute

Or how about 5 corys (any sort, but I think that the smaller they are, the cuter they are  ), a school of maybe 6 tetras (I love my glowlights  ) and a pair of dwarf gouramis. You could put a couple more of each in your tank too, or pick another kind of fish to go in too

Btw, these sums probably wouldn't be dead accurate, because you might get a larger tetra or cory or something...

tetras... 1.5 x 6 = 9
gourami... 3 x 2 = 6
cories... 1.5 x 5 = 7.5

= 22.5 inches of fish in total :D

If I go dwarf, it will be dwarf - espcially the cories. I seen the non-fully grown dwarf cories - oh man are they cute! I want to take them between my thumb and index finger and pinch them to death! :hyper:

I said species tank, I would like a tank with discus.
20l too small for discus imo and they are one of the rare fish I would like some hight in the tank for... and angles.

HEY!

How about some dwarf neon rainbows! I love those and if I had a tank they could go in, I'd keep some in a heartbeat! Unfortunately they would be eaten within seconds in most of my tanks

They max out at 2.5 inches and are said to be avid spawners, here's a link with some info. If you search around you may find better pics. :)

You mean this guy? Only 2.5 inches?

I keep these in my tank see sig.. He is the most shy of them all It took him about 1 year and the removal of my most agressive cichlids.
IMO the 4' tank I have my rainbows in is not long enough. The dwarfs would be ok in a 36" tank if you had an extra pump for water flow (maxi jet 1200 or 900) that would rock. In that small of a tank I would not put them AND cichlids though. And while they are super beautiful.. I would rather have an ugly yet interesting cichlid.

Now while I was moving my tanks recently I used my 10g for temp storage. I bought 10bucks worth of PVC joints that filled up 5g of space. In the front I squeezed in all the houses/plastic wood ect I have. I divided the tank almost to the top with egg crate It was a MAZE in there... in that case none of the fish could chace eachother for long LOL... but you wont see the fish as much either hehe... "whats my point? Nothing, it makes no sence. He is a wookie..."
NM I got lost
