Somewhere else, as I am banned...
In case you missed it in the normal pics threads, I recently decided that enough drooling over a white ribbon eel was enough, so I bought him and put him in the larger of my empty SW tanks. He is naturally being very camera shy, but has eaten frozen, which is a truly rare thing for these eels as even Scott Michael couldn't get them to eat dead.

Here is the head:

And some of the body, which looks fantastic

My fortune in getting this to feed makes me fairly optimistic about possibly getting a black ribbon eel (and then watching it grow and mature through its blue male phase into female yellow).

Man Andy, how do you find these exotics :hyper:

I have an lfs nearby that gets in all sort of odd marine fish (including trevally which grow to over 1.5 metrtes and are active open water swimmers requiring tanks well in excess of 1000 gallons...). I have my eye on a pair of marine halfbeaks they have in at the moment as well, if tehy are still there when the new reef isset up I will probably get them.

My main lfs hand picks stock from TMC in London, so can pick up most marine fish that are imported into the UK.

Which shop Andy? I'm always up for visiting decent new shops to me in the SE area.

Nice eel BTW :good:

To go and browse, Wickford Aquatics in the Alpha Garden Centre just outside Wickford off the A127 is good. They currently have a couple of good and rare puffers and boxfish as well as the aforementioned Travlly and currently have a gorgeous clam that is close to a foot in length for £200.

Wickford is good for carrying aquacultured SPS frags from as little as a tenner and also has a beautiful leopard moray in the store. If I had somewhere to put a 10 foot somewhat aggressive fish I would snap it up in an instant, though sadly I don't.

Swallows in Rayleigh (again just off the A127) has a fairly large selection of marine fish, but I tend not ot buy there, and I certainly don't trust the staff a great deal.

If I am actually wanting to buy a fish I will go to Tug's Tanks in Southchurch Road, Southend. It is a small one man band that doesn't carry a great amount of stock (but does have a scorpaenidae leaf fish in at the mo) but will get most fish, including my old frogfish.

Nice one, cheers.

I saw a similar clam about a foot in length at STM in Sevenoaks, superb!

Aplogies for the quality of the video and camerawork, but with feeding stick in one hand, and camera in t'other, I managed to get a video, of sorts, of the eel feeding, so here you go:

Nice work Andy :good:

Wonder if our American friends have figured out the 'Jelly' reference in the title of your thread yet?

Not yet.

Thought that Jam/Jelly idea might trip you up....

Wrong direction entirely - think you need some help from someone in 'sarf landan' - think pie and mash shops and start from there...

Once they've figured the jelly reference I'll start posting in Welsh and really confuse everyone

Aaah, Pobol y Cwm! Cwyb Rygbi!

And that is the extent of my Welsh knowledge...

And for the Yanks (and reclusive Northerners) out there, Jellied eels (normally Anguilla anguilla) is a regional speciality of East London and Essex. Though the jelly in question is neither Jam (the yank meaning) or a sweet Gelatin based desert (the UK version). I work with a lady who keeps threatening to feed my eel to her husband with some jelly...
