identify my betta for me please!

picked up this guy at petsmart he looked so sad and droopy. he was in his little cup with junk at the bottom and poop everywhere, his water was blue!

i went to walmart and got a nice 1gal triangle tank with underground filter (but no cartridge?) and air stone which sits in the middle. also a nice plant.

added him a mirror whenever he sees himself in it he puffs his gills at it and moves his lower two "hands" up and down - kinda cool, i hope its not cruel

Oh, and don't worry about the blue water, that's usually just methylene blue I believe.

(edit-) And no, it's not cruel to hold up a mirror for him every so often. It's good fun/exercise for them so they don't get bored.

Yup, that's a red VT. Just make sure you don't have that mirror up for too long. It's good once in awhile, but if he keeps constantly flaring @ it for too long, it won't be good as it stresses him out.

I have that same tank too. They are only $10 and it has a light on top. I took out the undergravel system because it takes up too much room for my big boys. They seem to really like it and by the way it's shaped they always look for there reflection then flare. They are so funny. I highly recommend these 1 gal. kits. they are cheap and nice to look at and has a light that keeps the water warm.

I have a betta just like yours in that very same 1g triangular tank I bought from Petsmart. I bought 2 of the tanks (I also took out the undergravel filter since I tried to give the bettas a little castle to hide in). I have 2 bettas in those 2 triangular tanks and 1 other betta in a huge 1.5 gallon plastic jar (came with mini-pretzels). I cleaned it up real good...added gravel and a plant. I lvoe bettas!
