Hey guys. My old 15gal long (when fully filled) is currently just a red cherry shrimp colony. It’s a pretty basic driftwood scape with Christmas moss, anubias and some rotala in the background that I’m hoping will eventually break the surface and grow emmersed.
(Excuse the algae and general dirtiness of this tank - I’ve let it go abit for the shrimp)

But I’d like to have a fish or few in here.
I’m using a sponge filter and won’t be looking to change this for a hob or power filter so the water is slow moving and it’s soft slightly acidic water.
I was thinking either between a single schooling fish like ember tetras or celestial pearls. Or get a single centrepiece fish/pair
: A betta, a honey gourami, bumblebee goby, a apisto pair or a pea puffer or two?
Something that’s going to really stand out against the greens of this tank or have some great personality that’ll be interesting to watch

Thanks!

Zebra or Leopard danios ? Nice active fish.
Want to add some Sewellia soon

Nice! A school of embers, celestial pearl danios, or chili rasboras would look GREAT in that tank! So would a group of Betta imbellis.

I'd stay away from the pea puffers if you like your shrimp. I've never kept them, so I'll defer to greater experience if I'm wrong, but aren't they extremely predatory toward shelled critters?

Absolutely love this tank :) What about some dwarf cichlids like Nanacara Anomala or Laetacara Dorsigera? Could be a threat to your shrimp but only in the same risk a betta or gouramis could be?

I hadn’t thought about a group of imbellis but that could be really nice! A lot of colour and personality too.
Yeah I would definitely have to remove them if I were to get a puffer. Probably most hassle than it’s worth haha

Thankyou Wills!
I’ll be honest I have not heard about these cichlids before! After just looking them up they have some incredible colour patterns and are a an usual shape too! Definitely a fish with character!
Ill do some more research on them!

You can get a group of 5-6 pea puffers in this size tank, although you would have to remove any tankmates (and preferably add a bit of floating plants to the right of the tank to provide more shelter).
(also never keep only 1 or 2 pea puffers together, first because they will show more aggressive tendencies, and also because they are heavily reliant on shoaling in the wild, they feel safer in a big group)
All puffers are great personality fish, they learn to recognize and hand-feed very easily, and compensate for no tankmates very well
