I've currently got a nice group of 7 Cory Trilis in my tank and have agreed to take Studz 8 off him this weekend - 5 of which are a breeding group.

My question is this - am I overdoing the Cory polulation in my tank?

Obv no more after this bunch, but I just love the little critters!!!!

Cheers,
Gazo

Sorry, I never assume that the tank in question is the one described in a siggy line. :look:

You've got all that stuff in a 40 gallon tank? Looks like you're pretty crowded in that tank.... just my 2 cents.....

5 Sailfin Mollies
8 Guppys
5 Black Neon Tetras
5 Neon Tetras
3 Cardinal Tetras
6 Flame Tetras,
7 Corydoras Trilineatus
8 Corys from Studz
11 apple snails
3 apple sphixi
loads of trumpets
10 Ramshorn
1 Tropical Golden Muscle
1 Golden Clam

doesn't look that awful to me

more snails than i'd have in a tank but each to their own!

Thanks Miss Wiggle (cant stop singing The Outhere Brothers now - w-w-wiggle-wiggle!!), I love the snail colours and their effortless grace in moving around the tank!

I hate all this US/UK Gallons being different as I'm sure it leads to some confusion!

Have been advised that on the basis of ground space 15 is my limit, so the boy had done good :good:

Oh c'mon its not that bad, i wouldnt really say its too bad at all really.

If you actually read whats in that list ( ) then youll see alot of the list is just snails, something which most people dont put in their list of stocking because they dont contribute to the bio load a hell of alot unless you have massive quantities of them. Of course in that tank all the snails etc do make a difference, but not nearly as much as fish.#

Just my 2 cents

I think I was mostly concerned about all those bottom dwellers in the same tank. My husband has 3 corys in a 26 gallon and I can't imagine more. But, I'm not a cory owner, so I was just going by the entire list.

I'm glad if the numbers end up working out for you.

I do partly agree with Lynda. Since I have about 50 apple snails spread thru my tanks, I have noticed that when the snails are in the tanks with corys the snails sit on top of food and therefore corys do not get the food because they dont push the snails off. I have since taken all the snails out of my cory tanks and have seen an improvement with the corys (happier, fatter, spawning hehe)

My 2cents

arent snails realy messy creatures? i personaly think your tnak is overstocked,But if you have good filtration i see no problems.I would perosnaly put the breeding group in there own 2ft tank and let the group re populate :)

Quite the contrary they would appreciate to be in a larger group and really should be kept in larger groups. 26 gallons can hold way more than 3 corys.

I have about 8 medium sized corys in a 50L tank. Now dont go all nuts on me for that, but they are all happy, all spawning. Plus the tank is way over-filtered. I agree with drew. Having a filter with a water trun-over of about 600L per hour might work. Snails are good to have in a tank, adds something different to look at.

woa. that is alot of fish. a total of 15 cories? u'd have to make sure they get enough food though. and not having the food being all eaten up by your middle and surface dwellers before it reaches the bottom.

any pics?

Currently changing my tanks substrate from gravel to sand - will try to get oics once its all settled fella ;)

I have 25+ Corys in a 40 usg tall + 2 fry nets. I also have about 15 in a 20 long and similar stocking in all my Cory tanks. The Cories love it, dancing and spawning constantly. Good filtration, water movement, air curtains, and weekly water and media changes.... When I get more room, I will be able to increase the tank numbers and decrease the number of Cories per gallon.

But the Cories love large groups of same species. I don't know what would be too big a group.
