Id On Pleco Species

Pleco-Catfish.jpg

Not captive but given enough space they could reach there full potential size and I'd say it was towards the 2ft mark

very nice, but it is not a common pleco, that is Acanthicus adonis, the largest Loricarid.

That is like posting a photo of a vulture in a discussion about seagulls.

My mistake not at all like posting a vulture tbh as they look nothing alike like these do

But I've kept commons and sailfins and had the commons reach 19 inches ( measured them ) and the gibbiceps the same

CBA arguing, but that doesn't look anything like a large common, apart from in the same way a vulture looks like a seagull.

Gibbiceps is a sailfin and nothing you have said backs up the 'will grow in excess of 2 feet'.

Got a picture of your 19 inch Gibby and/or common?

Well I've not come across that species before

And I know gibbiceps is the same as a sailfin

I havnt got pics ( there dead now )

But out of interest what makes you doubt this size (the sizes I stated ) ??

I didn't say I doubted it, just would be worth seeing a fish that exceeds the listed maximum size on PC.

I have a deep fascination with Loricariidae, I have kept over 20 species in the last 10 years and I have never seen a common over 15 inches.

Being honest, I don't believe you had a common that big, gibby maybe, but then you probably mis Id'd it based on your early post.

A gibbiceps and common is very easy to separate i presumed that picture was a common as it was listed as one

you only have to go to mfk to see some above 15 inches

I did have commons that big and the fact that you have not raised any above that indicates that your feeding poor food tanks too small or not frequent enough water changes and if you've never kept a common then I don't see that you can dispute the size either

CBa to come back to this so will leave it that

To the op there commons and can get around 18 inches depending on the exact species ( there's a lot that have been put under that name)

Atb bae

I have a 10 inch common in a 125g tank. Given proper tank space, the poo mess doesnt seem nearly as bad...

When he was in the smaller tank previous owners had him in, it did look like the fish had a war with silly string..

In all that, why cast aspersions on my skills as a fishkeeper? Child.

I will have a look at MFK when I get a sapre moment, its been a while since I have.

so much for "cant be bothered to argue"

Im going to report you now because youve acted very agressivly and out of order.

My advice would sort your attitude out :good:

i would hardly say aggressive and out of order just a difference of opinions surely......

and Id agree and keeping an eye on the thread

Come on its Easter big group hug and lets all get along :good:

I didn't think I was agrresive (IMO) and I wouldn't say xingumike was either and didn't mean to offend

But I think we will just have to agree to disagree

Fyi I went for a quick look at MFK, there is a thread entitles 'biggest common on MFK' or words to that effect.

Lots of people claiming 26 inches blah blah and yet the largest one with a photo claims to be 17 inches and that looks optimistic.

So until someone can prove that not only am I wrong, so are L-welse and Planet Catfish I'll stick by what I said, you are wrong.

Lloyd, aggressive? Not at all son.
