when my clown loaches died cause of ich, i thought the whole thing was over but guess i was wrong. now my only neon left has it and so does my painted skirt tetra. the new ich medicine that i brounght is the "jungle ich gaurd", the only problem is that i can only use it when i change the water so i would have to change the water everyday if i want to use the medicine? but even when the ich is off my fish, how much longer do i have to use it? :look: i am so upset with ich that i would kill it if i could. any one else uses this product? any tips? i did post before because my clown loach has them but when they died i thougt it was over now i have to deal with it again. DAMN! offtopic: btw r swordtail agressive

After the clown loaches died, did you continue the full treatment of the ich? Just because you can't see ich, doesn't mean its not there. It is free swimming and only attaches to a host to feed (this is what you see, and usually only happens in times of stress), therefore, you need to continue treatments for the recommended amount of time to stop it. I haven't used Jungle Ich Guard before we use Kordon's RidIch+.

For more info, read this Ich

This should pretty much explain it as we all worked hard to help Tanked get through his troubles and all is well with his tank now!

Feel free to ask any questions if this isn't clear enough!

i read through your guys posts and found only one mistake. as much as a firm beleiver in hospital/quarantine tanks that i am, with ich you do not want to use one. you want to treat the whole tank including water, gravel and equipment. since ich is undetectable when free swimming by transferring the fish showing signs of ich will only transfer it to another tank.

do you have any other scaleless fish in with the infected fish? if not, then would reccommend using salt along with the treatment.

Please let me clarify what Allie was reffering to when she told tank to use a QT......He has a painted glass fish and she recomended that he put the glass fish in a seperate tank so he can lighten the treatment so to not cause to much damage to this already fragile fish. Sorry if there was any confusion there but Tanked did treat his whole tank and I will never tell anyone to just treat the fish when it comes to ICH. I am in total agreement with you there Semper, treat the whole tank and keep treating for several days after you see the last of the ICH fall from the fish

Sorry again for any confusion

As well as using the meds for Ich, did you also turn the heating up on the tank.

This apparantly speeds up the cycle of the ich bug and this I presume kill it off quicker.

no problem. i know that i preach to use a hospital tank all the time. the kids that i sponsor the fish club for are tired of it! when my aunt got really sick and i needed to spend all of my time to taking care of her, one of the teachers helped out. she got the kids some new fish and the fish were diseased with ich. well, they remembered me saying to put the fish in a hospital tank for treatment and that is what they did. almost wiped out the whole lot of fish that they had. felt so bad that i donated all of my fish that i had here, with the exception of my devils to them.

fishkeeping is confusing enough. trying to remember everything is a major brain attack. just wanted to clarify that a hospital tank for ich is not good. did not want any of the new fishkeepers to think that he did not use a hospital tank cause of lack of room or an open tank. sometimes the small things are taken for granted.

Oh how well I agree, someone will post something and I will rack my brain trying to remember the proper treatment......I think its time us Mods sit down and right a bunch of tutorials so we all can give the brains a rest........you can ask CM........theres not alot of my brain left anymore....lol

ich......... pain in the A$$, i just wish my platys won't get effected, so u mean that i should take the paited glass fish out of the tank? but my other tank is like 1 gallon and it dosen't have any air pumps and stuff.

Well since I missed the fact you have a painted glass fish too and that you have a 1 gal I would say get a product like rid ich and treat all the fish at the same time in the same tank every other day for 14 to 16 days with an increase in water temp to around 80 to 82 degrees
The cure for you will be slower but you should be alright

Les

okay so i will use something like rid ich and the water temperature is about 80, will the "Jungle Ich Gaurd" work? -_-
