HIYA!

Okay, so I have a 48 litre tropical tank, I first had 4 guppies, 2 platies, 2 gouramis and 1 bristlenose pleco. Since then the guppies have been at it and now I have about 20 of them!(I did keep the fry in a breeding trap thingy, because they looked cute ^_^) Can they all stay in the tank? I really don't know what else to do with them. They're nearly at an adult size and i'm sure if they have babies then their fry will just get eaten or whatever. HELP!

thankyou :/

Take them to your local fish shop, they may even give you cash or store credit for them.

What kind of gourami are they?

Opaline

Opaline gouramis need a tank of minimum 20 gallons, which you don't have. I don't think it's big enough for the bristlenose either.

Stick to the platys and guppies. If you don't want babies, choose either males or females.

I don't understand, the lady in the fish shop asked how big my tank was and how many fish I already had in it, and she still said it was okay to have gourami? why would she say it was okay if it's not? s:

If you're in the UK, Maidenhead don't tend to take them ( I asked them about mine and they refused). An independent might reluctantly give you some fish food for them though...

Maidenhead branches have exchanged fish for me before. I took some glowlight danios back and took some neons home in return. Another branch let me have a couple of small bits of slate. They certainly don't buy them, but my nearby ones will reasonably exchange or replace a few fish. I call beforehand to check before turning up with a bag of them.

My local independent buys excess Livebearers for half the price they will sell them for, a pretty good deal for fish born in the tank ie free to me to start with. They'll also exchange for other fish of similar value, or give store credit. Happy customers = returning customers. It's ALWAYS worth asking rather than keep fish in unsuitable circumstances.

OP, you can't always trust staff to know what they're talking about. Many do, many don't. If it was the difference between you buying them or her not getting a sale, why not tell you they'd be fine? Chances are if they died shortly after you'd go back to buy some more.

MA do take fish, but it depends on the people who run the shop. The benefit of taking local fish is that they and been grown in local tap water and are less likely to keel over and die when they sell them on. But it really does depend on the store. I plan to get rid of my 200 bronze corys via an MA near me, already been discussed! oh and to stay on topic, yes, you are over stocked.

Are they all in the same tank?! Cos that I would LOVE to see!

And yes, Candyfloss, you need a larger tank or less fish, your choice of course.

MA may take Egg Layers but the guy told me the don't accept Guppies, which is what the OP was trying to get rid of I think. Buying them for half the selling price sounds like a great deal though!

I've given platys to MA before. Perhaps it's at the discretion of individual store managers.

Tizer, they're so cute! I have five peppered cory fry about that size, can't imagine having hundreds of them though!
