I have been wanting a betta for a few weeks now but had nowhere to house one.... well today i bought a plastic 11litre tank and a small filter. I've set it up with some sand, a fake plant and some rocks and shells. My African dwarf frogs have moved into there, and I have bought me a beautiful male betta. He is like turquoise blue with orange in his fins, he is absolutely gorgeous. I'll try to get a pic later, he is still acclimating and I am waiting for a few air bubbles to disappear off the sides of the tank too. Oh he is so great, I am really pleased!
Now is there anything I really need to know about bettas? I know they don't like a strong current, don't need a heater if the house is warm, and I have some betta food and bloodworms for him. He has a lid on his tank and a small underwater light attached.

Here he is :)

Thank you :) He is just gorgeous.... shame I have no more room for any size tank in my house right now or I would be filling my house with bettas, have well and truly been bitten by the bug! :p

when you said about the 11 litre tank and filter, did you get a heater with it, just u didn't mention it thats all

if you ain't got a heater i would recommend you get one.

btw really nice fish, lovely colours

also forget about the heater thing, i just read the bit about not needing heater if house is warm, i can't read things fully lol

thanks

paul

:) :) :) I am so happy right now!

No, I didn't get a heater, do you think i should play safe and get one? What kind can I get that will be OK with a plastic tanks?? I guess if it is fixed on with suckers away from the tank it will be ok...

He's a great find.....congrats, he's gorgeous :good:

He is much happier this morning since I fixed a bit of some tights over the filter outlet as the current was too strong for him and as the filter is so small it is not adjustable like my others. Worked a treat - before that, the current was strong enough to keep knocking the filter off its suckers as I had it directed in to the side of the tank! Need to name him now.... hmmmm, will have to think long and hard about this! And my froggies who are living in there with him are very happy, they have become much more active - I think it is because I am using sand instead of gravel for my substrate, and the frogs seem to move about much easier on this, and have dug themselves a few liitle holes to hide in too! :)

you think? I can't get to lfs till next Saturday now so would be best off ordering one off ebay or somewhere - what should I be looking for??? al my other tanks came complete with filter and heater for the size so I'm not quite sure what to look for
