I Really Shouldn't Have...

Thanks, his scales on his body are darkening giving him a speckled look. I keel panicking when I glance over and can't see him. I know they benefit from the tannins from wood, my water was practically tea coloured in that tank, but I did 2 water changes to clean that gravel and it's faded. I will get black sand to really make him stand out.
Sounds good, I like using Seachem black flourite sand or Fluval plant stratum as my substrates. Both products have a rich dark black colour to them and they're awesome for planting. I usually use dried Indian almond leaves for aqua tanning my aquariums though, it's really cheap if you buy in bulk haha. Got a bag of 100 7"-8" A grade leaves for $10.

This is what it looks like at the moment. It will be getting overhauled on friday!

I will just go to LFS and see what they have. I was originally after the white sparkle sand for this tank as it was going to be red shrimp in it.
Stupid question but he will eat fry wont he? Might not be such a bad thing to keep the numbers down.

This is my main tank

I would love to put him in there against the dark but I have guppies. The male I am breeding is pure black so he wouldn't be a threat but the other one is bright yellow so that will be problematic and I wouldn't risk it.

Oh he is so gorgeous Ny!! RCA is responsible for a lot of us getting hooked on bettas! lol
I'm already looking for a 3rd tank and mentally making space for it even tho I didn't really have room for the 2nd.
Somehow you just find the space - it's like it appears thro magic!
Or is that sheer determination? lol
Anyways Rusty is a great find - I must not dismiss LFS bettas in future! (100 times!)

Thanks :) I love him!
I was doing that today-rearranging things in my head! RCA asked for pics so made me go back there! I had said to myself if he's still there-it's fate. It was fate because the rest of the fish in his tank had gone. They change their stock on a daily basis.
I am so glad I have him and am back to bettas lol.
He is currently eating baby flakes from the wood lol.

Well he's definitely a feisty one, he's been flaring at his reflection for the past half an hour. I have never had a siamese fighter do this so it's a real treat! He's trying to be all menacing but he just looks so cute lol. Safe to say he's settled in!

Try and get a picture of him flaring if you can Ny!

I will try! He has lovely black and red under his gills when he flares! Then sees me and hides :( he will be used to me in no time though. Tank lights are off so more pics tomorrow!

You got him for a really good price, normally they would be about £7.50 for a Veil Tail!

Firstly I am not responsible for anything any of you do, I do not even like Bettas

You are right though about finding space for yet another tank!
I have some lovely fish from my LFS, in terms of males, only my Purple Plakat is an import from Thailand, the rest are all LFS ;)
Betta girls are harder to come by, especially nice ones, so they are about 50/50.

Hmmm, I made you did I ;)  Still I see you do not regret it now.   He is a wonderful colour and you will hopefully have many happy and entertaining years ahead of you both.  Well done in not resisting ...

Yes you did! It's easier blaming you than to admit we gave in to temptation ;)

Thanks I can't wait to see what he's like tomorrow. His fins are darkening and have red undertones. You know twin bar platies how they have a black line on either side of the tail - being the twin bars? He has that on his tail too. His tails getting neon blue and red streaks on it. He really is a stunner. I wish I had a decent camera to take pics of him as my phone does not do him justice what so ever.

Do you know anyone who is into photography?  Maybe they could come and do some good shots for you?  A good time would be when you need to move him to sort his tank out, you could put him in a glass container (if you have one) and then the photographer can get the shots for you?  If you do not know anyone contact a college that does photography classes and put in a request, I am sure some students would love to give it a go

Google "How To Take Good Betta Pictures" and you should get some good articles to assist you on your mission.

Ooh I am on a car forum and when we go to meets one of my mates brings his big DSLR camera. I will ask if he's free. He lives about an hour away so not too far

Serves me right for losing my camera when I moved here! I just can't remember what I done with it.

Hopefully this will work!
Fingers crossed!
