I Need Help

the ammonia and nitrate are zero and the nitrite is 0.01 ppm
it seems that it is only getting worse, should i change the water completly and start from scratch

Your filter isnt cycled, it shouldnt have any fish in!Do you know how to do cycling properly? If not you need to read up on cycling and do it properly or your going to lose your fish.

well what i did wasa i went to the pet store and asked told them my situation, so then i was tryign to pick up the girl so she would help me a bit extra, it ended up that i got 3 used cartrigdes that were in the pet stores tank becuase she said these are already cycle and they had the ame filters as mine so i emttied all my water and replaced it all, replaced the new filter with the oens i got given and got my filter from my established tank and washed it all off into the new water, ive spent a ####load of time worrying about all of this so i thought it was best to do this, as of right now my ps look fine the water is alot clearer from when it started the last time so even if it goes murky again i think i am one step ahead of the game... hopefully i dont run into any problems but if i do i think im just going to deal with them one by one, lets just hope piranha are as hardy as people say and can stay alive for the time that is hard for them... this may not be right but i didnt have any other options, the good thing is that they do not look stessed out at all

there's a pinned topic on fish in cycle some where on the site read that, helped me when i did mine. also in some peoples sig but not sure who;s

the piranhas will survive don't worry. i have them and through there was a crack in my tank so i bought a new tank and used new water and just a underground filter and they lived i saved 34gallons but my dog felt the need to taste a piranha so i just poured that water out. They live in a river for sake don't worrry just make sure that theres enough air in the water so put air stones and bubblers in there. And don't feed hem gold fish buy some tin foils because thats something they would eat in the wild and post some pics of them and i can give you some better information.

chilll out people..everyone's got to start somewhere, and not everyone knows everything about cycling or about how serious it is.

good work flirting with that girl haha
if you got mature filters out of it, you should be fine..they will quickly cycle your tank.

don't use any of those chemicals to get rid of ammonia and nitrite, they will only mess up the system. cycle is best left to nature.
just checking, but you know there's nothing special about the water in a tank? (except it contains the ammonia from the fish waste that keeps a filter alive). but you can change all the water without a problem. the belief that you put water in the tank, and leave it there forever, is not the best way to go, and outdated. just checking.

keep your ammonia and nitrite below .25 by doing up to 50% waterchanges..more than that shouldn't be necessary. if you dont' know too much about cycling, then go to the "new to the hobby" section, and the beginner resources link..there's several things in there about it.

good luck.

Lol, I wouldn't come for you for advise thats for sure,
Tinfoils come from a totally different continent to Piranha so I'm not sure how they eat them in the wild?

Most people who have Piranhas know Jack about them, a statement clearly proven here.

Tinfoils?

I agree Davo, feed them white fleshed sea foods such as prawns, mussels, cod fillets etc. All those types of food have good nutritional value and your fish will enjoy them!

Stay away from live, any live fish can possibly be carrying disease or parasites.

Whoops i meant to say something like the tinfoil they look alike but live in the big river in brazil. i found the name silver dollar :(

Doesnt matter if its tinfoils, silver dollars or goldfish, all can carry parasites and therefore arent worth the risk feeding to your fish if you truely care about their well being, not to mention it being cruel and illegal in the UK.

If you buy piranhas to watch them rip up fish like on youtube then you buy them for the wrong reason and its not "natural".

yeah but saying that about piranhas... if u want to see them "natural" you will never see them becuase they never come out of the weeds, and u better have mud water because thats what they live in, and you better have alot more then schoals of 4 becuase schoals in thewild consist of 10 or more, unless they are solitary piranhas

I have two red belly's now around 12" in a 75 gal.bought 4 years ago when they were the size of a quarter. They get along together great, they live with 2-6" red devils,6 exodons,1-3" flowerhorn.Very little sparring or fighting.I think the key is to keep the piranha's fed.

They dont have filters in the wild but they need them in an aquarium dont them?Im not referring to "nautral" in the form of shoals in the wild etc, Im talking about feeding goldfish etc in a tank.

Isolate the feeders in a seperate tank for at least a week, than safe to go

Some diseases and parasites dont show any visible effects on the fish so you can never guarantee.

White fleshed sea food or carnivorous pellets are full of nutrition unlike goldfish for example, live isnt necessary and illegal in the UK.

Also in most cases for that week, the feeders are kept in worse conditions than when they were in the store.

feeders just aren't required
