Hi Ya'll, I'm Holly.
I have this problem in my tank, I noticed about a month and a half ago a tiny plantlife ( I think) in my tank. Now it's more pronounced, and not in one spot. It's barely visible to the eye because it's so tiny. It's green in color and shoots straight off the rocks, caves, etc. It has little tenticle like branches coming from the stem. I do have some plant in my tank...moneywort and some type of stiff grass...well I used to have the grass. I wish I could explain it more...but I don' t know what else to say about it......it's super tiny though. Thanks ya'll!

Got me stumpted!! It sounds a little bit like an aquatic moss to me. I have a golf ball sized ball of moss in my tank. But Rose is the resident plant expert she may be able to help you more.

Would you be able to post a picture of this green stuff?

It could either be java moss that somehow got into ur tank, or hair algae.

Heres a pic of java moss :

sorry carnt find a pic of hair algae, but its as thin as hair and is green and can be anything from 1cm - inches long

is it poss.
it is a dwarf sagittaria (sagittaria platyphylal) ?
OR pigmy sword, micro grass, dwarf vallisneria, dwarf sword (echinodorus tenellus) OR Ricca fluitans ( fern like ) , Vesicularia dubyana, ( another fern / moss ) these are a few small grass type plants that I can think of off hand. A few I keep some I would like to get. :D ;) :D

Do you have a picture ? Sorry I can't post a pic. scanner is dead ???????

And maybe if I could figure out my MOD functions I will move this topic over to the plant section. Where it should get alittle more attention. Lets see how long before another MOD beats me to it and moves. lalalalalalala HINT, HINT, don't want to risk ditching topic. Tried but didn't look right ????? HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:  :hyper:

hehe tihnks danny could do with your help in cayotes pics lol

Might not be plants/algae at all. You may have an infestation of Hydra. These are small organisms that feed off other micro organisms with their stinging tentacles and can become quite prolific in new planted setups. They are not dangerous to adult fish though, only to very small fry. :)

Hydra isn't green its more of a clearish white. Those move all over the tank and are mostly on the glass.

With out a pic I (or anyone else) and possitivly ID this plant/ algae for you. Or you'll need to wait till there's a bit more of it. I know that's not much help to you but as Danny said there's a lot out there it could be. Rose

All the hydra I've had have been green Rose, that may be geographic variation though! :)

Aw man, thats what it looks like? I got ripped off! Mine wasnt java moss at all either. It was kinda yellowish brown and didnt stick well at all. I only had it for about a month and it all fell apart and got sucked up into the filter. It was ugly too...

I thought it looked kinda funny

Does anyone know of a place here in the states that I can buy REAL java moss from?
