Im not sure if you guys should be posting the name of the shop on here.

They were worried about the Jewel getting eating? I would put a 20 inch pirahna in my tank and my jewel would shred it!

But, as Snake said, be careful about posting names of the LFS. It could potentially open our mods to slander suits.

ha same here lie to u die lol
employee:what size tank do you have?
me: 8ft long
employee: really?
me: yeh heres a picture (shows a picture of my little brother hand in front of my 3ft tank saying its mine lol )
me:all i wanted was 2 danios lol

 Suprised they only let you have 2 for your '8foot' tank....Sorry sir you'll have to buy 10 more to get these ones!
well they told me they would be ok with the white cloud minnows i know they wouldnt but they sed they would but my shoal of danios is now down to 2 over time they just go and i dont want any more danios or minnows so once their gone unfort their gone but it was funny

i dont mind the shop i question i do go to them not very much as i cant drive and i think they dont have very much options only really guppies platies and mollies which i never had much luck with besides platies but its mainly the driving thing

My jewel battered my FM.
Lol the 'shop' makes me laugh.

Overheard yesterday, "Tank size?" 60L, "How long has it been set up?" 2 days.

OK here's the Oscar you wanted!!! Why do they even ask??

Edit : If you fancy a drive Dobbies in Ayr, South Ayrshire are really good.

At least your stores ask you questions. There is one particular chain here in Australia, that will sell you anything.

I heard one employee say to a customer;
"Oh okay, you have a fully grown Pictus Catfish.. Yeah Neons would be great in there!"

I decided to step in and say;
"Excuse me, but no. No they wouldn't. They will get eaten. Which is fine if you want to feed them $2 snacks. But seriously, do not get the Neons. If you want Neons, get another tank, or move the Pictus. (Depending what else he had, I didnt ask)

Safe to say, I didn't get a very nice look from the employee.

Another occasion, a woman wanted some neons also. And she was told by a different employee that because they are a schooling fish, she should get a minimum of 3, and they will be fine.

Once again, I butted it.

It's probably quite rude to do so. But honestly! It's much better for the fish and the people!

Generic Pets At Home bashing thread where OP has only been to one store, this thread sucks man, go to a few, don't tar them all with the same brush and make statements which simply aren't true.

end of thread.

end of thread.

I hate to tarnish, however my local Pest at Home Store would only be good for supplies...
I took a look around it and found several dead fish doing the backstroke or catching a tan on their fronts whilst being eaten by shrimp.
I'm lucky, Ive got 2 other shops I can go to which are within 20 mins drive from where I live... I know where I wont be going to get my fish once my tank has cycled ;-)

That doesn't make pets at home a bad company does it? It's a franchisee operation, if you want to blame anyone blame the MANAGEMENT and not the company. Threads like this get forums into trouble legally.

Last time I went, it was this conversation.
"Me: I'd like this Male Plakat Betta please.
Them: That's not a Betta, that's a Siamese Fighting Fish and it's Female.
Me: I'm sorry but yours wrong. That is a Male Plakat and Betta is another name for Siamese Fighter.
Them: OK then, what size tank do you have?
Me: Well I have 4. A 6 Gallon, which he will going in on his own, An 8 Gallon, A 15 Gallon, which is currently empty, and A 37 Gallon which is currently empty.
Them: I'm sorry but you can't put him in the 6 Gallon, its cruel. I can only sell you this fish if you promise to put him in the 15 gallon on his own. "Betta's" need a 15 gallon tank to themselves at least."
Of course I wanted him so I agreed and then I put him in the 6 gallon when I got home :shifty:

Now I'm sure a lot of you have seen my Male Plakat? Definitely male, right?
My 15 gallon temporarily has 6 young Kribensis in it. They will be moved to my 37 Gallon with both their mature filters and 2 100 Watt heaters. Sound good?
I'm not saying they are bad but they do need t read up a bit...

+1 my LFS asks nothing ...... sometimes one of them might ask how the tank is doing because i bough it from them, but thats it

At my local PAH store they sell 6 litre - yes 6 litre plastic containers advertised as homes for Golfish, Mice or Lizards (there's a pic on the front of all 3). They cost £6 & I actually bought one as a temporary home for my 1 Golden Barb while I spent around 4 hours cleaning out the tank a few months ago. I hate to think how many kids have got Goldies in those :(

LOL, I've learne to go in there and talk bull crap, yes I have a diamante, 500l, silk planted aquarium in the shape of a top hat...

Agree, i tell them the same thing every time, ive had a 4ft running for a few years, just emptied it to start a new community, and the one im buying is the fist to go in. Been doing this for a few months now, and the guy never catches on.

All started when i tried to buy the one and only rubbernose they had, and they refused, based on it having to share the bottom of a 4ft with some Kribs.

Some places obviously have to sell you poor ideas to make a sale, some obiouvsly sell too much and want to keep their fish!

That said, its not just the chain stores, or P@H specifically. And as StandyBy says, careful what you say ;)
