I Love Pets At Home

Well yesterday I popped into Pets at Home to get some supplies and had a we look at the fish (mainly just to play a game I like to call... how many tanks will be out of bounds).
As I was looking I saw some really really nice lookin Fire-mouth.... REAL NICE! I'v been eyein up a fire-mouth for a while now but not came across THAT one yet. But this was it. Great condition, no fin rot, white spot, dead fish in tank, dropsy... any of the usual. Tanks above and bellow looked to be in good order too. So I thought, To hell with it... take a chance, get the we beast!
So I hunted someone down, quick as I could before someone else got there before me. Found some we school buddy to fish out my fish. Then got the usual 10,000 questions...
How long have you had the tank?
What kind of filter?
Planted or plastic?
Whats your shoe size?
How many custard creams came you fit in your mouth?
What kind of fish do you have and how long for?
So I went through the list... Sevs, Rainbows, Bichir, plec, cats, dollars, red jewel....... bla bla
OH HOLD ON..... RED JEWEL? Oh im afraid it would EAT the jewel. Your kidding me??? The jewel? Probably, no, defo the hardest fish in my tank!!! Theres no way thats gona happen.
Nope, sorry, I cant sell you this fish... It wouldnt be a good idea.

KK's probably got the best idea. Tell them it's gonna be for a species only tank.

Also my tanks been set up for 3 weeks but I swapped the filter and water as i was upgrading from mouldy seals , If I would of said 3weeks she would of said no...

Then I got a lecture about fighting fish....had to stop her and mention I have bred them...

LOL, I've learne to go in there and talk bull crap, yes I have a diamante, 500l, silk planted aquarium in the shape of a top hat...

Haha there good in't they. I was tellin them that I have a pair of XL severum, that are 'doing the dance' right now, and deffent there we corner to the death and the only fish that can go near them... THE ONLY FISH... is the jewel
But the we pocket money earner wasn't havin it. I think i'v got some fish that are as old as he is haha
Ah well, just need to hold out till I go to my usual LFS... that CAN be trusted

it's not just fish they don't know anything about.
It's any thing that has a brain and paws/fins. Though Some stores are better than others.

Of the three here one is much better than one of the others - less dead fish etc, but there is also a new one I haven't been too.

And for it being a chain store it costs more than the LFS and the other LFS I am willing to use, weird isn't it.

Think al just stick to what I no, and just use Pets at Home for supplies. Dont ask questions, dont even speak unless spoken to then get outa there

Good advice. I have a self imposed personal ban from getting plants/livestock from the one here, way too many bad experiences. Which is a real shame as there is only one other pet store here.

Ha, think I'm goin to need to impose the same ban on myself. Which, as you say, is a shame, as the next pet shop that stocks a veriaty of fish is in Glasgow... which is the thick end of 20 miles away

Suprised they only let you have 2 for your '8foot' tank....Sorry sir you'll have to buy 10 more to get these ones!
