I Lost A Lot Of The Babies :(

I made tons of mistakes with my first two spawns.. mostly with feeding, keeping up with WCs and jarring the bigger babies. But even after all my mistakes, I still had tons left.. close to 90 combined. I now have 30.. if even.

They're 14 and 15 weeks now. I couldn't figure out WHY on earth they were dying so late. And not just the odd one here and there.. but 3-5 daily. I found it they have ICH! Argh. I could have saved so many little ones if I had just looked more closely in the beginning. I *think* they may have gotten it from the frozen bloodworms.. because I was feeding a generic brand.

I've now switched them to Hikari BWs and started medicating them. A lot of the jarred babies are looking much better after two days of treatment! Here's hoping the rest of them survive :\

you have experience in breeding etc.so ill ask you.i keep hearing about females getting VERTICAL lines on their bodies when they are ready to mate.when my boys are with the girls i see the girls get HORIZONTAL lines.whats the go?

Kali426, the horizontal lines appear when they're stressed. Some of my girls get the stress lines when first introduced to the boys, but after they settle a bit, the vertical lines start showing up.

Yep.. a good chunk of them were the opaques. But I still have quite a few left.. and I still have F2 planned.

I'm so sorry, Ashley. =( That just blows.

At least you can learn from this, and thankfully you still have a number of survivors. It's scary how easily they can die from disease, sometimes!

*sigh* I lost at least another 10 since I last posted in this thread. The jarred babies are looking fantastic though. The one that was covered in white spots is now almost totally free of ich! I managed to find another 5 alive in the grow out.. there's probably another 3 or so left in there. I'm gonna jar all of the remaining survivors tonight and start individual treatment since it seems to be working better.

No, I started jarring when they were much younger.. but I only jarred the ones that were starting to act aggressive. The rest were in the growout.

My best guess is that the ich came from the bloodworms. Since I go through tons of bloodworms, I switched to a generic brand from Hikari in an attempt to save some money. I had never had problems until I switched to the generic bloodworms. I picked up some Hikari BWs a couple days ago and have started feeding my bettas that.
