However, morals are not so cut and dry as scientific fact...
Considering all the debate and disagreement that goes on in the scientific community, I'm not sure I'd say that science is cut and dry, either
It is, it's just the interpetations that are hard to get straight.
C'mon now, you know better than that. It's simply not true - when you trust the science and studies without doubt, knowing that there is only one truth and science can find it, science becomes religion. It is impossible to PROVE any scentific point, really. A hypothesis is only ever "proved" by simply disproving the null hypothesis. Statistical analysis amounts to "what is the probability that these measurements correct within a certain error range?" It is statistically impossible for that probability to be 100%.

That's what makes science so much fun

And as for cut and dry - go talk to Hawking about that, he'll tell you how cut and dry it is. Or anyone studying the Precambrian, or the Cambrian explosion. Want a fun one? Try on the "Snowball Earth" theory - that's good to really get your head spinning...

well back on topic-
(and i have to admit i only read through page five so forgive me if i repeat something or say something stupid in the context)

personally i would probably never own piranha. i think fish like that are best kept in their natural environments. maybe its just a coincidence that a large number of piranha owners are a little wierd or morbid... come on-a piranha is not a pretty fish. most people just own them for bragging rights or for the carnage like our oscar-feeding friend (i have not seen the video btw)

but...every single one of us that says "thats cruel" is a hypocrite. you know that you probably value an oscar more than a guppy or a comet.
our cans of pellets and flakes were made from fish who most liekly suffocated or were cut open and gutted while they wre still alive. some of them probably had their internal organs pop out from the pressure change.
the fish you eat died the same way as those used for fish food. but it doesnt seem so cruel when you spare yourself the sight of their suffering.

im a vegetarian because i know i do not need to eat animals and as a plus, i am much healthier too. :flex: i try to cut out as much needless suffering as possible but i know some is inevitable. no-its not necessary to throw an oscar in the piranha tank but what else would the piranhas be eating? something else that suffered.
i agree that the issue is that the man taped it for pleasure. but by posting it on the internet he has probably just made all of his forum friends realize what a sad person he really is.
you know what goes around comes around. :kana:

The difference is that when using fish food we aren't the ones doing the killing... as opposed to the guy who deliberately tossed a large live fish into his piranha tank.

PM VIP He may send it to you . I saw about 15 seconds of it before turning it off .
Id send it , but honestly ......I don't know how , I can build houses , but I can't send links :dunno:
IMO the guy should have kept it to himself .

To each his own . :/

is it that much different whether we are doing the killing or some long shoreman? Vegitarians usually say its better to kill your food your self so you know exactly whats going on. If I send a hitman after an old lady is it any better than if I kill her myself? I deffinitly seee her point about hipocracy.

I( don't even think VIP is willign to share anymore. Starts a topic like this and won't send the link. I PM him and still nothing. I guess I'm just wondering if it's as bad as what people here say.

I saw the viedo and more that is on the site and they all like the way they come out so to speak, How may of the people here have fish they give live birth? How may of you remove all the fry? Is it relly any different? I maen if you feed your Oscar a guppy or feed your piranha an Oscar is there really any thing differnt about it other than the price tag you pay for your fish food?

I think they only thing thats really sad about this site is they have a forum for showing this to anyone that wants to read it, but it's kind of the same thing as wathing a movie say like kill bill, if you don't like it turn it off.

Anyhow, Robb

Yeah I saw the video and it's pretty bad. It took the piranhas a full 8-10 minutes to finish off that oscar. It was disgusting. And yes I believe it is different when you intentionally feed a nearly full-grown oscar to a bunch of smaller sized piranhas that can't finish it off very quickly, as opposed to perhaps accidentally missing some guppy fry in the tank with the parents who can eat 'em up in one gulp.
