OK, so I was looking in my tank today, and I notice FRY!! I didnt even notice that my female was pregnant! She is larger than my male all together, and didnt notice a belly. I'm not sure how long they have been in the tank, but I am not goning to bother moving them into a breeder because there is plenty enough cover for them in the tank among the live, and fake plants, and the 'furniture'.

Now to the questions.... I know who the mother is, because she is the only female in the tank. BUT, I have 2 different kinds of males in the tank with her. Could one of my guppies be the father of these fry, or is it def my male molly? In my tank I have 1 female molly, 1 male, and 3 male fancy tale guppies..... and now I have counted around 8-9 fry.

I am going to post pictures, they are not all that great, and there is nothing in the pics to really compare size, but if anyone has any wisdom as to how old they are, it would be awesome!!

ETA: What is the average number of fry for a Molly female to have. Years ago I had a female platy that dropped something rediculious like 40 fry, or my imagination could be running away with that..... :|
OH, and with a the yellow, with B&W mix...... what kind of coloring should I expect? I think one of them is going to be dark, but I'm sure the coloring will change a bit as they grow.

The one in the gravel is hiding well. The fry will be mollies. The theoretical hybrid of mollies and guppies is one I have never seen but I often keep guppies and mollies together. If the female has been in your tank at least 6 months, the male molly is likely to be the male parent. If you have not had her that long, the fry could be coming from matings before you got her. I find that my big female drops between 30 and 40 fry each time but reports of 50 are not unheard of. Only a very young molly will usually drop 20 or less.

OK, so since there is only about 8 or so fry, would you say that most of them have been eaten already, and the others are safe for the most part?
They really look too big to fit in the mouths of the adults, but I'm not %100 on that. Honeslty I'm kinda glad that I only have about 8 or so to
deal with because I dont have enough room for more than that. My brother (who lives with me) has a 14gal, that houses 1 female Mollie, and
2 male guppies..... he will be taking a couple of these fry when they get bigger..... how long shoulkd I wait to move them to another tank.
I dont want to do it too soon for them. And I have note had this female that long so he is "Not the Father"...... but we wont tell the children that!! lol

They are cute little buggers, I cant wait to watch them grow, and reach maturity!!
But I really hope that my population does not explode!!

The male in your tank may have been involved in the drop but it is not certain at that point. A female molly can carry sperm packets for at least 6 months from previous encounters. It makes parentage a bit difficult to ascertain for a while after you bring them home. In a molly tank with a lack of serious predators, population explosions are a way of life. With only a large female molly my fry drops run to about 30 or a little more who survive the first day. I am sure a few get eaten but not enough to control the population. On day one, the fry's birthday, it looks like this in my big female's tank.

On day 33 it looks like this instead

OK, I'm pretty certian they were probably dropped either..... 8/25/2009, or 8/24/2009, from comparing the size of the ones in your picture, and the size of my fry compared to the adult Mollies in the tank. Thanks, now atleast I can go by something!!

I only count about 8-9 of them, and none of them look deformed.
Though years ago when my platy dropped her load, there were 3 that were deformed, only one of those lived though. :(

well....ive got about 6 that are deformed but they all seem very happy, and now there a good 3-5 weeks old, i orginaly got the deformed ones from my lfs when they were young so i dont know how old they are but my new ones are 4 days :) im so proud even if they are just guppy fry lol btw...thats a real nice molly there oldman47

She once was a beauty Razer. She is getting on in age now and I am hoping she will still give me one more drop. The male she has been with lately is much nicer than the probable father of those fry a year ago.
