I Hate You All!

Love the silhouette in this one

And an ugly lighted on to show the whole tank

Lovely!

What is the plant at the back? Kind of looks like a huge anubia although leaves are more pointed - sorry on my phone so not easy to read through whole thread if I've missed where you wrote it :)

Neat reflection pics! I'm still confused as to hw they worked.... ????

It is indeed anubia - the back right is a large anubia, back left are some small crypts, and at the base of the wood on left and right are small anubias. Then fairy moss on the surface. I hadn't said about the anubias or fairy moss as I only got them today

. There's also an IAL which I left floating on the top which is causing the shadow for the silhouette pic

My betta tank is against one wall, and my main tank is against the opposite wall. For the photos I closed the curtains and switched the room lights off, leaving only tank lights on. But as the main tank lights were also on, this reflected in the small tank. So instead of getting annoyed I thought I'd use the reflection in the subject. For these latest ones I simply switched off the main tank lights for a moment

I too liked these shots, very clever and he doesn't even know you are taking his picture, so there he is in all his glory ;)

Got the proper camera out to take photos of my big tank, and looked over at Alfie and he was beautifully framed with all fins splayed, at the back of the tank by the LEDs. Scooted over to his tank, and all I got was this...

Ah well, at least he's not shy!

Stayed a bit longer and got these too

He's out of focus but I love the effect of the lights and fairy moss

Showing off his colours

Looking very red

I like the one of him "Showing off his colours", as well as him looking up towards the floating plants, even though as you say it is out of focus.  Glad you are enjoying his personality, they are all so individual, great that he is not shy.

He's so cool! Love how he's blue and red in one pic and all red in the next. Great pics!

He has quite a long tail, doesn't that mean that he's old? (I think I read that somewhere, anyone feel free to correct me though)

Longer fins especially apparent on veiltail bettas (like this one) normally point to older bettas since their fins grow with age.  He does look to be an older betta but that is normal with the ones you buy from petstores.  Most are easily 1yr or more.  As long as he stays active and healthy, it is nothing to worry about.  :)

If they're often 1 year old, how long do they normally live for after you've bought them?

Depends on how bad the conditions the betta has been kept in previously (damage done early on often affects the betta in older age) and how it is kept once it has been brought home.  2-3 yrs old is pretty standard for a betta that has been purchased from a pet store.  If a betta if purchased from a breeder and kept in optimal conditions, most people could expect to see around 5 yrs but it is not guaranteed.  I have heard of bettas living to 10 yrs but it is very rare to hear.   Average for bettas is normally 3 yrs.
